I went last year on the bike for a 10 day holiday so done all the tourist bits n rode most of the roads n ven did the TT lap 4 times, mountain section being the best as no limits So next yr i may just fly over beginning of race week from Brum / Liverpool, spend few days watching racing n fly back I know it sounds mad, but am gonna take a small tent n sleeping bag n take me chances on finding a field to sleep in
10 days and 4 laps that should be 40 laps, give or take mountain closures There's no way I could go and not take the bike, no way. Just getting around would be a pain and the temptation to thrash round the course and on many of the other unrestricted roads would be too much. Beware the speed traps mind
True, but tbh it got bit boredi after the 3rd lap due to all the traffic lights n other traffic Spoke to a local n all they do is a small section, from a cafe in Ramsey to Creg ny baa n back, about 7 miles i fink, but 7 miles where you can go as fast as u want even over taking ( safely ) cop cars at silly speeds
Loved getting up at 4:30-5:00 nothing about bit of mist bit more on the mountain ride till it started getting busy then pub time . Best time is early early as Mr B says
True but am oop at that time every day for work so i been gerring up at 6am instead for leisurely brekkie N gerring around on the old steam n leccy railways is good fun n goid place to walk to, did the Douglas - Peel walk along disused railway. ( 10 miles straight line )
My favourite bits were the fast sections through the country (e.g. Quarry Bends) and up to the beginning of the mountain section (Joe's). The mountain course was wasted on me 'cos I don't have the talent/balls to go fast enough to make the most of it The quickest I saw was about 140 coming down off the mounting from Kate's cottage to Creg-Ny-Baa ... willing a wheelie over the rise Piddled about at 90-110 over the mountain. , but fast enough for me. Great views over the island though
I failed to get ferry bookings, properly pissed off about it as I was in Afghan at the time I was trying to book and the internet was crap. I've got a mate who's over there for the whole 2 weeks. I'm hopeing to maybe get across there for a long weekend in the summer to utilise the open roads.
It's usually coned off with a 60 limit from Kate's to the Creg with the traffic lights at the bottom. Mountain the best bit for me.
Surely its only like that when the races r on, i went about 5 weeks before TT fortnight n you could go as fast as your balls are big
Oh wow.... wasn't like that when I was there. I went just prior to the Classic TT. I came home on the Saturday that the practices were due to start, so all the padding and course markers were out, but nothing was coned off (other than Governor's Bridge)
My youngest son and I have had initial conversations about going next year, he will be 18 on Thursday so he can buy me a beer without borrowing his older brothers id. He is bike mad like me but his mother (my ex wife) wont entertain him having one, I have respect her wishes as they are all for the right reasons. I don’t agree, but I respect her wishes and it’s his battle to fight not mine. If it happens we will be flying and getting a hotel or B&B. I have a Ducati now for god sake, don’t you know chaps and have standards to up hold so we can’t be seen camping like the Fireblade lot……….. If you haven’t read the some of the other ex fireblader flaming threads you won’t get the last sentence and absolutely no offence meant or intended. Just my sense of humour. If we are going we would love to meet up with you guys or beers and giggles.
^^^ id ger ur son to book a seat next to him, preferably by the window FoC ( so no one else can see ya sulking ) as no doubt your expensive ducati will throw a fit and refuse to start and it'll be the only way you get to the IoM to watch YET ANOTHER HONDA FIREBLADE ( yes you read that right ) DOMINATION Not that am saying ducati's stop working for no good reason, or the electrics are shite or the build quality of these expensive toys is very questionable, but you never know, ur ducati may throw its dummy out knowing its gonna have to sit in a grotty car park sumwhere whilst you watch real men ride....... wait for it......... FIREBLADES!!! Ha ha fookin ha ( Disclaimer : all posted in the same jest as post above of course )
I'll be comfortably riding my Blade all the way there, all 430 miles then happily thrashing it around the Island or taking a gentle ride to the shops for supplies or site seeing then riding it all the way back home again, comfortably because the Blade is such a great can do all bike.
I've been for last 10 years, missing this year cos of my wedding...I know silly planning!! But I'm going across in July to have 20 or so laps My favourite camp site. St. John's football ground, quiet enough to get some sleep but noisey enough to have some beers. Showers, breakfasts in pavilion and evening meals too with 12 toilets not festival bogs!! And large screen tvs for itv4 at night to watch it back. Just off ballacraine going towards peel. Highly recommend £7 per night Where ever you stay is £20 in taxi to Douglas, taxi drivers see us as there Christmas fund! Buses where on strike last year as trying to get pay rises.. And stay away from the women with 6 fingers and 3 legs!!
Going again with son and friends this year, for the first time I'm a tad doubtful, the plod was really out in force last year and they have slapped new limits in place all over, filled in the form that was going round (free pen!) and basically said felt it was overkill , no pun intended...
I'm there with my mate on his RRV 'blade from 29th May-4th June. We're renting a studio apartment on a farm in the south of the island. I hope we're not sharing it with the cows
I'll be there with a couple of mates. Going on 30th back on the 8th, so should be there for race week.
Try again after the 28th of this month. That is the deadline for paying for pre-booked sailings, so you may get cancellations or non payers ones becoming available. I paid ours last week.
