I'm still on the gen1 iPad. Love it, and have never had any problems with it. As other have said it's great for quick boot up and go. My laptop has now totally been left by the wayside. Only thing I use a computer for is work, and when uploading pics on here.
We have a iPad and iPad 2 and would not be without it. Was sat in the garden having a BBQ last night with I player on and mock of the week running. Ideal for reading forums like now. Agree they are limited but they are grat toys
got an asus transformer for xmas, love it! great for taking away on holiday, suppose i use it as a glorified kindle though, heaps of books music videos on it, plus can put my phone sim card in and use it if no wifi around. was mac user for years but ditched it around 2004.
Anyone else got the IPAD 3? Bought it for Karen a week or so ago and are having issues with battery as far as charging is concerned. I have done the obligatory search and it seem Apple have an issue to resolve! you can no longer use the ipad whist charging as it just continues to discharge due to the power it uses being greater than the supply pushes out. Also, when if first states 100% charged, it doesn't actually mean it! The first sight of 100% charge is actually only 90%. the charge is not an arithmetic progression and takes approx 2 hours to charge the last 10%. so to stop customers getting annoyed and thinking something is wrong, Apple decided to report 100% charge at 90%. Unbelievable. Karen is not happy at all with the new version as this is a massive down side. The talk is that Apple will need to offer a 20W charger to fix this situation. I bet we will have to pay for it if it ever appears though! This has just reaffirmed my dislike of Apple.
Before the 3 was launched there was loads of battery life scuttlebutt on the net. Apple did make a point then of stating there was no issue to address. There was also some stories of them becoming uncharacteristically warm while charging.
No issue????? Karen wants her IPAD 2 back because this is just unusable for her! What use is a device like this that you cant use whilst charging????
No need Ken.....im just passing on the ear bashing I am getting from Karen! What was i thinking buying her a £400 gift....how inconsiderate of me!!!!
Before I got mine. The geezer in the Apple shop in Exeter said to me out of the corner of his mouth, "Don't buy the 2, as it's a refined version of the 1. They've just put right all the glitches from the first one. Wait for the 3, that's where all the new stuff will be." In fairness, the geezer probably thought he was doing me a favour by stepping out of his 'shiny, shiny, all praise to the leader' Apple cult coma and proving there was some human worth saving underneath the plastic grin (sorry white, gloss plastic grin), but I've been in the business of selling technology for a while now and even so, it doesn't take a Richard Feyneman to work out that the one with the fixed bugs is going to be a better bet than the brand new, how do we stuff all this crap into the same case, especially as the new screen needs a bigger power source, one. iPhone5 anyone?
They said it will be released 'for the holidays', which is Thanksgiving-Xmas period. I would steer well clear of v1 either way, unless you are keen on being an early-adopter.
How handy would an Ipad be for me to take along with me to the TT for example to dump the pics off my SD cards onto the Ipad. Is this possible ? Also, how much is it to have one connected to a mobile network for internet when away from a wifi connection. Would I be better off with a netbook ? Thanks.
You'd need a camera connection kit, Matt. About £25 from Apple but there are others around for much less, and remember, you're limited to 64GB on the biggest iPad, so RAW files will fill it up quick. A netbook should have a lot more storage onboard but at a size increase premium. If you just want to free up space rather than play back, I would just buy more cards. They're so cheap at the moment I don't even bother to empty them I just replace them when they're full.
Very easy, as I do the same. You need the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit, which you plug into the dock connector on the iPad and then you can plug in your SD card and it will xfer the pics into your photo roll. The great thing is that it will convert your RAW images into JPEGs so you can view on the iPad and then email/upload as you wish. Good for reviewing your shots on the scene too. There's a good few photo apps now, PhotoGene, iPhoto, etc etc. I think I've got about 7 or 8 for various jobs and workflow but haven't got my iPad with me so can't remember them off the top of my head.
According to these rumours, it's going to start 'at above $599' for the wifi model, which as we all know equates to £599 after the 'let's rip the consumer off' USD:GBP exchange rate is taken into account..! Microsoft Surface Models Priced at $599 for RT and $999 for Pro Let's hope MS doesn't fall into the same hole that Samsung et al fell into, with an uncompetitive pricepoint.
