I put SBS street excel pads in my 2010, bled the system and left a cable tie on overnight and it did improve the brakes no end. The pads gave a nice initial bite and there was less movement in the lever to get them working in the first place due to the air being bled from the system. I now have a new 2012 model and the brakes are not as good. I thought it might be down to the pads being new and therefore going to give them time to bed in but if they still feel rubbish I'll put the same pads in as before. I personally don't think that there is any need for blingy Brembo master cylinders, the standard is plenty powerful enough. The system can be improved for a lot less than the cost of said bling.
Ok, so i am going to remove the shims first to see if this helps, then a bleed. I have just checked my old pads but these are genuine honda ones and not the brembo pads that i though they were.
So a question...................Do you think that changing the Master cylinder in the first instance is the way to go ? Would putting good pads i.e EBC double sintered or similar make any difference ? Ive had the M4's I think on my Speedie, and they are OUTSTANDING brakes. Jamie, if I was too do anything to the brakes right now (Humour me), what would you do ? HEL lines ?? Change the master cylinder etc ?? (Which would make sense as I would love to slap M4's on her),, put better pads on her front and back ?? Im already thinking about taking the chain off my speedie before I chop it in as it was new last year and it was a gold DID 530 ZVMX.
Is there anyone on the forum that would sell all this stuff ?? Jamie, did you say Arthur can do all this stuff !!??
Athurbikemad can supply HEL braided brake lines as can Jonnyarnett of bikebitsNI Caprimoto is the cheapest for the Brembo master cylinder in my experience that inc next day delivery from italy, however we have demon tweeks who have been providing some members with good deals lately. Best thing is to find what you want, research prices then post up on the forum, most bits have been bought by members who will be only to happy to share there knowledge If Arthur can source the kit or not, there is nobody who knows more about brakes, bling and brembo !!! he is a true gent and would be more than happy to give you advice etc
If you can play the waiting game you'll find these bits pop up on eBay every now and then. I wanted a Brembo MC for quite a while but wasn't willing to shell out for a new one. Ended up picking one up from eBay for £106. Chuffed with that, and it don't half improve the feel too!
I know Joke mate, the M4s on my Speed Triple are beautiful. So I think I am defo gonna go that way. I think meanwhile I will start looking at HEL lines, and sintered pads now, Brembo master cylinders later on, and then after that Brembo callipers. I just spoke to a suspension guy in West Yorks called John. He sounds like a really nice guy so when I actually pick up my bike in a few weeks time a little jaunt up north (Googlemaps puts it at 2hrs 40 mins away) to get my suspension setup properly
Sounds like a long way to go. I was thinking of heading to PDQ near Slough for the same plus PCV setup. Less than an hour from me so probably not that much further from you?
That's the question I'm still pondering. They look like a pretty professional outfit but I haven't asked opinions yet. Website here though: DynoJet testing and tuning Centre
