In the Arndale Jessops had a flagship store - downstairs was sales with a huge range on display, upstairs loads of booths for printing and photobooks etc. and a studio - I spoke to some UK managers when it was opened and they said they needed to shift the income stream away from cameras and into 'value add' stuff like wall art etc. and studio. Store is a great layout - nice place to be and A3 englargements were only £4 and printed well - added to a £7 frame from Wilkinsons = very cheap large wall print! I really feel for anyone in retail - sports wear, electrical, department stores now photography, plus Game and others - its the internet and tablets - people just go to shops, decide what they want -see where its cheaper and if its £10 less on-line walk out the store where the salesman just spent 10 - 20 minutes trying to get a sale. I am sure there are more to follow and even more empty shops - but its OK because Cameron was really pleased that Amazon created a few jobs at its automated warehouse to send stuff out even if they pay no tax.
A friend of Helen's has got vouchers worth several hundred pounds which is now worthless as they won't honor them!
Question re buying from jessops at the moment, If i bought the Panasonic GX1 from them and they do go tits up big time, would I have a warranty?
Yeah, camera repairs are farmed out to an independent service network who simply charge repairs back to the manufacturer anyway. Are you sure you wouldnt rather buy my Panasonic GF3 ;-)
