Finally got my K-Tech DDS Lite shock fitted after installing the Constands centre lift fitting kit. Just push the stand into the frame and lift it with one swing of the handle. Made changing the shock easy. Also dialled in the front suspension. Can’t wait to try it tomorrow now. Before anyone asks, no it didn’t need it, but it was half price with just 300 miles on it.
Cheers Nige, I stuck in BJ’s fork settings as dialled in by James at JHS on his long termer for Fast Bikes and dropped the front by 10mm as opposed to Dave Moss’s recommendation of a 20mm drop but as I’ve fitted the shock too I don’t want to do too much in one hit. I’d be concerned that 20mm and a better rear end may be too nervous on the roads. Fine for the track maybe but I need to see how it rides first.
One of the minor negatives of the standard bike is it’s too soft for track work but the standard suspension can supposedly cope with just adjustments, but an aftermarket shock will always be a hands down upgrade over standard.
what front fork does the Mt10 use, i find my R1 fronts good but changed my rear to a Nitron race shock
I think they’re the same KYB forks as the R1 or at least similar. Not many complain about the front. Been out for a few hours and can testify that all is good. Lots of confidence in the front now it’s been adjusted. The front feels as good as the rear now. I will confess tho that I hadn’t touched either front or rear before yesterday but it now handles like a sports bike instead of a sporty naked with a low arse end! The handling now matches that beauty of an engine. I was concerned that by virtue of dropping the front and having a shock with the correct settings and preload for my weight that the bikes propensity to wheelie would be diminished but I needn't have worried. Rear and front tyre look good. Although I’ve never been one for tearing up tyres.
More to buy but more to sell second hand so not so bad, I always strip all my upgrades and sell them separately
I'm the same. Alway have been. what this one cost me I'll get back and maybe more. It really was a steal.
Looking at this Fasterclass from DM it appears my rebound is too quick as it is wearing away the leading edge of the sipes. Resolution : add a little rebound. https://davemosstuning.com/fasterclass-motorcycle-street-tire-rebound-wear/
After watching DM’s video on rebound I’ve added a little rebound at the front and rear and it actually feels like a change has been made. On the odd section of bad tarmac where it had been rutted by maybe lorries coming up to roundabouts etc and the bike felt like a jack hammer under me and on this mornings ride out that has gone and the confidence inspired by the suspension is unreal. A definite noticeable upgrade.
Got my second hand SP front guard from Germany to add a little coloured detail at the front. Don’t know why Yamaha don’t do this as standard on the blue/black model? Also found a comfort seat locally for less than half price, stoked about that, not a mark on it. Also got my bits (pipe, smoked Brembo res, race res mount and R1 radial pump) to make up a radial R1 master cylinder, just need to find some time to fit it. Apparently it fits and retains the cruise control if I swap the brake switch although the banjo is at an awkward angle but will be ok until I get braided lines for it.
