I wonder if all the bikes fitted with Bridgestones have the white below the screen?

Oh no! Don't start me on that one! Can you imagine me hoping on my VTR and doing the rounds of dealers and the Ace Cafe taking pics of tyres ans frontal fairing of 2018 SPs?

I know they say small things amuse small minds, but this is fascinating as to why there is two different versions. I have even phoned Honda Head office with my query. I'm sure they'll think I'm a raving looney, but they will have an answer in 3 days. The benefit for me, of course, is that if this question ever arises in Trivial Pursuit, I'll be on a WINNER!! The Downside, though, is that Honda might say they've got no idea!!

Had a phone call from Honda UK Customer Service just now to advise about the 2018 blue panel/white panel dilemma.

The white panel designates 2018 model, whereas the blue was 2017. The 2018 bikes 'J' model with the blue panel were merely using up the remainder of 2017 fairing parts. Presumably, only the very early 2018 sales would have been blue panels.

This has scratched an OCD itch (not p*ssing about either - it was starting bug me, and I don't even have this bike!)
It is nice to get to the bottom of it.

Did you ask them about tyres Nigel?
I’m just wondering if the throttle connection issue which was tyre sensitive (see Bike Social’s feature below if you haven’t already) has spurred Honda to find what tyre works best with the new blade hence the switch to Bridgestones?

Yeah RS10s. I have no doubt that the Supercorsas are a great tyre. I have used them many times in both road and race versions.

The problems that people were having with throttle connection were on standard (non SP) bikes which were fitted with Dunlop D214s.

I’m just wondering if (in light of these issues) Honda had been testing various tyres and concluded that the RS10s are the tyre most suited to the bike’s electronics and make the bike perform how they intended.

I could be reading too much into it of course and it could also be something silly like Ducati attaining an exclusivity deal with Pirelli where the V4 is the only Sportsbike that ships with Supercorsas or something!

    Who knows?

    No I didn't.

I think Honda has for a long time 'recommended' 2 manufacturers' tyres within their Owner's Handbooks. I imagine this is in case one particular type is unavailable, or, perhpas, certain countries/regions might not stock a particular brand. For instance, my 2011 is recommended Bridgestone BT015 or Dunlop Qualifier. For the 2018 SP it is either Bridgestone RS10 or Pirelli Super Corsa SP.

I haven't used Bridgstone for years, but I do love the Super Corsas.

I agree N ....switch between the 2 brands of top of the range tyres....Gcon as yours are on bridgestones and a fresh Aug 2018 sp we could put that down due to the summer holidays in Italy which go on for weeks Pirelli production is low at this time and focus mainly on Motorsport ...just a thought..

I wonder though, if a 'fresh August 2018 SP' might have been actually manufactured in, say, May or June?;)
