I can't believe that nobody has tried AM Leathers in Barnard Castle. Made to measure, your exact requirements. Don't go there in the lead up to the race season because there will be a wait. Everything is made on the premises and Steve oversees the whole job ensuring quality control. I got two piece suit 10 years ago and it still looks good.
Crowtree don't exit anymore now chief, Alec Baumber died, and there was no-one in line to take it over. Shame, suits were a bit retro but bulletproof. Have seen a lot of club racers in AM leathers, look on a similar vein to crowtree. I did a bit of shopping around and found myself an alpinestars atem 2 piece suit that takes their clip in back protector, got it for half price, so well happy. At the end of it, certain makes will fit differently, I cant get a dainese suit to fit. Alpinestars fit like a glove. Best advice is to set a budget, go try stuff on in your price range and, if going for a two piece, go for a decent make and, if you do decide on a change, you can always swap jacket or trousers at a later date.. and in some instances, can swap to a textile sports jacket for colder weather that will still zip to the leather trousers. Depending on your height and build, I've my old aplinestars gear to move on if the OP is interested.
Looking at buying a Richa Attack one piece, comes with a pair of Richa Tracer boots for £250. Are these any good?
Mine must have been one of the last sets of Crowtree leathers Alec ever made. I collected them 2 - 3 weeks before he passed away. So very sad to lose a man that new his craft inside out. I remember him telling me that he wanted to retire, but returning customers wouldn't let him ! Prior to my Crowtree's I used Alpinestars. I couldn't fault them, but my advancing years ( 46 ) meant that they seemed to shrink a little bit more each year.
They're what I've worn racing this year and have held up better than I thought with 3 little offs (2 in the rain). Between the team (all 9 of us wearing Richa Attacks) we've had quite a few offs and they've all crashed well with the only serious injury being a broken leg but I doubt it would have mattered if he was wearing £2000 top of the line customs. One of the lads had an over 130mph crash in a set of the old style ones in 2014 and wore through the elbow leather and some of the padding resulting in this (but he slid on it across tarmac for quite a distance): They didn't fit me that well and are noticeably not as good quality as my Arlen-ness and the Furygans that I've just ordered.
In defence of FT, I use a 2 piece for my commute, really like them! Comfy and warm. My 1 piece is an ancient set of Branded Leathers from the 1990's! Thinking my standards might be lower than list of this forums members!
I ride like a pussy in FTs, but my old 1 piece has seen plenty of Tarmac time, an old Manx stone wall and a hedge...
Just in the middle of getting a new 2 piece and going to try and and possibly buy a set of Lindstrands chrome leathers like these http://www.raceleathers.co.uk/lindstrands-chrome-leather-jkt-yell-48.html buying local and they have had to order a few in for me to try and they did not have any in stock
