so how did it end? I always keep a traditional plug in phone as spare and for fault finding, I disconnect everything and plug this inside the master socket as earlier mentioned. It is possible your master socket does not have this additional socket inside if it is an old house. Your supplier is responsible to provide a fault free connection up to the master socket
All is now good. I did remove the master socket and found two lose wires, a black and a green. I looked for a wireing diagram on the net and tried to "repair " myself, it made the situation worse. I think the two named wires should be "free". Anyway, bt did another line check and admitted there was a problem with the line. They rectified the fault within 2 days.
I think in the past 4 wires were used, having extensions had a part in it but THB can't remember. the krone connection is very reliable. glad to hear abt the happy ending
I could well be wrong but I believe the green and black are the ringer wires. No need for them on modern phones, and TBH I don't even know if BT still put the 50v down them any more.
Nope, ya all wrong! The extra 2 wires you found behind the Master Socket/NTE5a are not supposed to be connected for a single line, they are there in case you require a completely separate 2nd Phone line (diff number) activating, in which case they would be extended in to a second NTE5a Master Socket adjacent to the first.
