Hi Vino, from the Tunnel, jump onto the D940 which is the coast road and takes you down through Boulogne and on to Le Touquet. Great sea views on the way, and good to see the locals checking out the bikes as we go past the docks in Boulogne. Can be a bit confusing just prior to LT, lots of roundabouts which I've previously gone round and round as the Satnav tries to get to grips (cue the paper map boys lol). Happy for someone else to lead as my sense of direction is shite, so I tend to rely on satnav. Last time I went, the good old French had shut a section of the D940 and typically there were no deviation signs Anyway, it's a great ride and if the weather is kind, very scenic along the coast. Looking forward to it. May well go over there in a week or two just to do a recce, good excuse to have a decent ride and a nice lunch. As the Blade turnout has been minimal to say the least, I'm cool with any other bikes joining us. Oh yeah, just treated myself to a POV HD bullet cam, so hoping to get some good footage. JD
What time do you think we'll arrive there mate? Let me know what day your planning the recce as may tag along if ok?
Dave, reckon 11.30ish mate, bearing in mind they are an hour ahead and allowing for minor delays for fuelling. I'll let you know when I intend to do a recce bud, Jimbo you still coming over for the recce? JD
We are off down there this coming weekend by car. My Command system always seems to have a nervous breakdown just before you turn left over the bridge (when approaching from the motorway) before you get to Le Touquet. Fish supper at Perard for me on Saturday.
Glad someone else has the same problem lol. Enjoy your trip and your fish supper. Is Perard that restaurant that has the wonderful seafood display?
That's the one JD, posh looking one on the high street, with small fish market right next door that is part of the same business, bit pricey but well worth it, especially if you go for the big fish plate. Wonderful food.
Righto guys, gone very quiet on the LT trip, so here's a little reminder re: times - 27th May. Times as follows: Outward 08.20, Return 17.20. Cost £28 return. We had 14 booked when I last checked, so just a small group. Is everyone still up for it? Originally planned to do the drop-off system, but need someone to volunteer as a front or back marker, I'm happy to do either. Jimbo, you wanna take the front? you seem pretty good at finding your way around Or we can split into smaller groups if you wish, either way, decision needs to be made I guess as it's getting close. JD
Guys - just to confirm I am still going so that's me plus 2 [Repsol = me] + 2 CBR600 riders - Happy to help out but seeing as I've not done these kinda trips before I am not sure I'll be of help!
yes i am still going, i have never ridden a drop off system. Have you all applied for your E111 / European Health Insurance Card ? if not apply now i have just done so by phone. Better be quick as it takes 7 - 10 working days. ( 0845 60620300 ) Just a word to say i will not be going if it is raining unfortunately. Can i meet some one on the way if poss please ?
Me too! So I'll meet you there also... Gums, don't worry bout the rain... Might be sunny in France!! JD, I don't mind leading, whatever you fancy, although you'll be following an old r1 I'll drop you a line, maybe catch up before and poor over the map to look at route?
Ride safe everyone, I'd meet up, but my Chunnel is booked for 5.50am on the 27th, so I'll miss you all.
