My bike doesn't have any other faults as soon as they removed the shifter it fired straight up. HM on the phone just couldn't find the fault but also couldn't get the shifter to power up. Appears it could be the main circuit board has failed but until I pay for it to be replaced we won't know so I'm better of with a new one as it's only 60 quid more!
I know people that work with circuits do have to take precautions we perhaps wouldn't, earthing themselves etc. Perhaps an inadvertent short or a spike went through the circuitry at some point. I'm just thinking if you go to the expense of a new shifter and that goes wrong, HM would have a good point if they said it's not the shifter its a problem at your end. I know only a little about connecting extra gubbins to vehicles but things like connecting a power lead direct to the battery is important as it prevents spikes in the voltage. I see you have extra things connected, digital heated grips, HID, PC, Etc. May be worth an electrical engineer having a look before you test it with hundreds of pounds worth of kit.
H I know what your saying but these bits of kit come full diy instructions. As do most things these days and they are literally plug in and and play.
Hi, just seen this now I'm back in the office as I have been working in Spain for a couple of week Sorry to hear of the circumstances you find yourself in. Unfortunately as you brought second hand you are not entitled to any warranty that comes with the product. FYI The warranty is non transferable. A repair to this unit in not feasible as it is DOA so as a gesture of goodwill and something we do not have to do as the unit is a few years old at best we have offered a BNIB unit for a heavily discounted rate. We do this as we can, our failure rate of DEAD units is so low, (less than 1%) that we like to offer something to these customers who have these rare issues. We do not have too and every case is dealt with at the time, in this case you have been offered a BNIB unit at the heavily discounted rate and it is an offer that we have extended to you for a unit you brought second hand as we like to try to keep all of our customers happy, regardless of wether it was brought new from a dealer anywhere in the world or second hand of someone in the pub, new customer or old I think you will not find many companies that would even entertain the idea of this but we take extreme pride in our products and our level of customer service.

I appreciate the offer and have not complained about the service offered by HM. The service offered has been first class. I have spoke with the chap I bought it from and have no reason to disbelieve him at all about Millage covered. This shifter has done less than 2k between us so was hoping it would have lasted longer :-( However having a new baby at home and the wife not being paid now on maternity I can justify the cost even at a discount. So this one I take in the chin. Shit happens (less than 1% typically to me) . Thanks for everyone's help at HM and comments on this thread. I guess the unit I sent you can be disposed of unless you think the parts are worth anything to anyone?
Circumstances of life we can't control but congrats on the new baby coming We have had shifters last for years, many thousands of miles, many races, many seasons. The life expectancy would be greater than this, however, it is an electronically component and sometimes as you put it "shit happens". We do use only the best quality materials and components and another thing we take pride in is they are made here by us in the UK. Im sorry this has had to happen to you at this time and I hope you can enjoy our products in the future again. This offer will be valued for one month from now should you change your mind.
