That is under race conditions, whereas my R6 needs a refresh once a year.

well, thats the actuall wrong way to look at it.suspension on a biuke, more so track is (along with brakes) the most important upgrade you will make (apart from some decent instruction).pc's,nice exhausts are very good to have, but not at the top of the list.

get a decent stock engined bike thats had some money thrown at the suspension.

No, the 675s in non stock trim require a refresh about 3 times a year. I couldn't afford to run one, would like one, but not at that rate of maintenance.

Suspension is by far the best investment you can make. At the end of the day it is what keeps the bike in shape and the tyres properly in contact with the tarmac. As a starter, get the new bike set up for your weight and for track use only. To go the whole hog is pricey. My mate has just shelled out nearly £2,000 on a rear shock and valve kit for his forks. So, it may well be worth looking at something that has been kitted out with K-Tech/Ohlins/Maxton from the start.

    in a simple word yes.

the better your bike handles and stops, the more confident you feel on the bike which in turn allows you to push a bit harder, brake a bit later=go faster.

i cant stress it enough that this is where your money should go,and the most cost effective way is to buy a bike thats already had some upgrades done.

Im getting mixed advise a bit here so getting slightly confused, ive been told to not go for a trackbike cos it will bave been ragged and may have problems with it however if i go for a roadbike it will need loads of cash throwing at it for proper setup. maybe gonna struggle with my original budget of 2-3k.

But then you will rag your bike so you will have the same issue, I would just pick up an old cbr 600 for 800-1000quid then parts and engines are cheap and if you smash it up its not the end of the world and your road bike stays pretty

Personally mate, I'd just get one ready for the track. At that money, it's a bit of a gamble to get a road bike without it being hammered??

And tbh, most folk that are into track riding are real enthusiasts and prob look after and spend more money on there bikes than normal folk.

Between 2 / 3 k, id get something this. Hasn't got suspension upgrade but would be cheap enough to get some internals done out of your spare change when you've picked up your pace and confidence a bit.

Does have a v5 which I'd always want to have to make sure it's not nicked!!

The cheaper ones tend to have no v5 though mate which should always send alarm bells ringing!!

Castrol Craig done a great thread about the pitfalls of buying a track bike, have a read of the mate, will give you some good pointers!!

I'd also go as new as you can afford, generally going to get better performance and handling out of a stock 2005 r6 or cbr than an older cbr for a few hundred quid less....
