Well, all I can say is that I did my first track day 4 years ago, on my Blade, slowly booked more and more track days. Discovered that I got such a buzz from track riding that it dulled the road riding slightly and decided to go racing. I have since found that the buzz from this is like nothing I can describe and have decided (reluctantly and sadly) to let the Blade go. But do you know what, I am not missing it at all. I just live for the next race meet. Track riding is the way forward (not that I needed to tell anybody that!!). At the end of the day Yorkshire, buy wisely, don't rush in to a bike. There are plenty out there, both good and bad. A bad one will be the worst thing you ever did, but a good one will have you questioning keeping your Blade. Good luck!!!!
I tend to jump the gun a bit which as i grow up am slowly improving on lol. just gonna save up the pennies till july then buy whatever bike os right for me. no point looking until then i suppose i may keep my eye on ebay tho and tdr forum. just wanted to get some basic awareness and lessons from you lot for what to and what not to look for. cheers for the help peeeeeps!
The more bikes you look at, the better. get a feel for what you should be paying and what you should get for your money. Pistonheads has a few bikes on every now and then, but on the whole, TDR, motoforum and ebay are your best bets. It will great to see what you eventually end up with!
for what it's worth i would stay away from ebay until your comfortable with being able to look a bike over and see how it's been treated, know what signs to look out for ref;damage, abuse etc.. your best bet is to get a bike either through popular bike forums (TDR,MOtoforum) or well respected dealers.mike@racespares for example. reason being, most people that sell bikes on there are known riders/racers and there's good chance that the history of said bike has come up on threads (i.e. crashed ,problems with the bike etc..,just do a username post search),plus theres usually people that know the bike and will vouch for it. obviouisly this isn't bullet proof as people have been shafted in the past on forums, but it at least gives you a little bit more security and peice of mind. and always take someone with you that does have an idea of what theyt are looking at
I have a 04 plate Blade as a track bike, 20k miles, FHSH, quite tricked up. Fully hpi clear with 2 owners and I paid £2,300 for it, last year. On a daytime MOT, bought that from eBay I think. My first track bike was a £600 zx6r, awesome fun. I have a sunday best bike but tbh can see myself just sticking to the track soon. Its a nightmare finding a decent one though - I looked at 4/5 where when I did a hpi check the owners forgot to tell me it was a cat C/D, two bikes that had been joined together etc. Or the other popular saying 'still got frame numbers so easy to apply for a v5' Total bollocks.
Ok so my budget is now definetly 3k, maybe stretch to 3300. Lookin to buy end of may to get on track for end of june. du k whether to go for 600/750/1000. For the same price i cant help but feel im getting more bike with a 1000. Any advice? Ideally i want to get to a point where im doing a track day a month barring winter.
I would honestly stick to a 600. I always swore by 1000s, until I rode the R6 on track and it is just epic. You can brake later, get on the power sooner and they are lighter and more chuckable. Don't be put off by the lack of power or cc's, as a well ridden 600 will not only keep up with 1000's, but probably give them a good run for their money too. 750s are a good mix, but you are looking at a gsxr and nothing else, so aftermarket bits/spares aren't as common.
Ideal!! Standard bike but with the K-Tec revalve, makes it a great contender. The revalve is about £400, but worth every penny. Don't worry about the close up of the cracked fairing in the 5th photo. It may have just got damaged in a van or the like. It even has the standard switch gear, so hasn't been used as a race bike probably. Good low mileage too, so should be a trouble free machine. Get some spare bodywork from UK Race Support Home Page and keep the paint scheme simple. get some cheap brake levers and go enjoy!!
that's a shame, as it looked good. Oh well, the hunt continues! Have a look at this: YAMAHA YZF R6 2co track bike race bike 2006 with V5 | eBay This is what I race and love it.
Potentially buying a 04 gixxer 750 with spec... will update tomoro... 2004 K4 GSXR750 Turned into a track bike by Black & White Bikes All numbers intact and V5 in my name Previous TDR member owner (Banksy) Ohlins rear shock with remote adjuster K-Tech front internals Home made quick shifter (works a treat) Sigma slipper clutch Quick action throttle K8 rear end Harris adjustable rear subframe Renthal medium grips Gilles adjustable rearsets Gilles lifters Shark finn Brembo pads Braking wavey discs front & rear WOW's with wavey discs, rear tyre is brand new, front is barely used Brembo master cylinder PC3 Dymag wheels Quick release fuel cap Stomp grips R&G Crash Bungs Steering damper Full MHP stainless exhaust and headers Renthal Sprocket Supercorsa's with at least couple of days left in them Spare screen (with a slight crack) + tyre warmers and genny, a set of supercorsa scrubs and front and rear paddock stands £2800/900
1 thing just to think about, if you have an off how easy is it going to be to get a k4 front k8 rear etc etc? It may be easy just thought I would put the question out there. Also not sure I'm over keen on that gap between the seat and tank, I would be tempted to put back to standard rear (if poss)
And im doing my best to stay away from the shiny looking track bikes and go for one that is well upgraded and rides well. this one is off the tdr forum
its only £2595 on pistonheads??????? Used Suzuki GSXR750 K4 - Trackbike with V5 for sale - PistonHeads (Ref 1333579)
that advert was placed 4 days ago cant get on to TDRforum so maybe that's a older advert an hes struggling to get interest? hence the lower price on pistonheads...you reckon?
