    Maybe, but you'd discover that when you went to have a look and either walk away or haggle a bit.

    but by then you'd have bought it.it's ebay.you bid to buy,not to barter.

    not if it's not as advertised. I'm sure I've read it in the terms somewhere.
    I would still give it the once over before handing over any cash though.

    Not really mate, I've bought four maybe five bikes off ebay, if it doesn't fit the description (which leaves plenty or room for disagreement I know) you can decline to buy. You'd contact the seller first to agree to put a deposit down of a few hundred and the rest in cash on collection.

    Been ages since I bought an ebay bike but I think that's what I used to do, can't recall ever paying the whole asking price up front.
