Looks good... must drag my arse there some day. I wonder if it's a bit quiet coz they're keeping the airspace clear for policing the NATO jobber in Cardiff???
My brother goes there a lot too and has one of those scanners to listen in for aircraft doing the Mach loop run, think he posts some of them on Fox1 some plane website or something. Tried to get me to go last week but with leg I somehow don't think I'd make it to the top :-( Here are a couple of his photo's :-
Rich you can still go mate Just go to the side I was on You can drive too the top and a 5 min walk from car
Great photos Barney and you come up with the goods '' as always ''. What you don't say however is how hard it is to hear the plane, work out where its coming from, and then how you manage to focus ect. The reason for my question is that having recently been under the red arrows its murder just working out if they are even near you . Gutted I couldn't make it as the noise must have been epic. Well done.
When you sit at the mountain mike the jets come towards you but from 3 different areas, Too your left Dolgellau , Middle Bala , right The Bwlch , but each one is head on towards you after turning the corner , you can't hear them only when the noise is bouncing off the mountain , that's why the Puma caught everyone by surprise and came the wrong way . Look there not the best pics , there's loads better photographers than me there but just being there when they go past and the roar of the engines with the after burners on is something very very special to listen to and to watch .
Hi Barney, I really like your pics and was wondering if you could help me so I can go and take a look myself sometime, could you put a pin in google maps and take a screenshot so I can see the location of the parking area you refered to in an earlier post? Also let me know if there's a particular day where I'm likely to see more activity? Thanks for any help offered. Andy B
cracking shots barney! really got to get there might have to make a couple of days of it to get the kites aswell as its a good drive from my area
Red kites only 30 mins or so away from the loop , Go past it many many times but never called in , But from the road it looks ace .
Over the weekend I'll put a location map up It will have cad east/ cad west , and parking spots , For a good spot be there for 08.30hrs I thought they finished at 16.30hrs but they were still flying at1900hrs last week . What day to visit , its a lottery mate , you just don't know ... You might get 10 visits or draw a blank . Two day visit I recommend if travelling far a field , With b&b in Dolgellau .
Nice pics, hope you don't mind a little PS CS2 Ok so I am not too good with PS and these are way OTT edit wise, and yeah the last one is even more OTT lol (also the images are low res to start off with)
Thanks a lot for the info Barney, I look forward to the map. Don't think I'll be needing a two day jaunt (unless nothing happens on day 1) as I'm only about 60 fun miles from Dol. Andy B
If you fancy a meet up you can follow me and I'll Show you the car park or the track up the mountain , ( no walking ) Plus the other areas to watch from ,
http://www.myalbum.co.uk/GroteFoto-EZH37ADK.jpg As myalbum resizes the image they are hard to compare, also I only saved the images from the thread so no original, also I am out so on my Mac or I'd post full size anyway just a quick mess round to pass some time.. tbh my edits look worse hahaha...lol but not here, full size they are cleaner and sharper honest guv...lol
