yeh i know i am taking a huge risk only being insured tpft but as it was 2k to be fully comp it was either that or be stuck with a 600 for a few more years, i insured a zx-10 when i was 20 for £400, i live in a very small town (whitby) where insurance rates are very low, think i checked every insurer possible to get these prices though

Remember that most of the insurance companies that we deal with are actually brokers rather than the underwriters of the policy itself. And along with that some have more buying power and thus access to more discounts than others.

Last year, when I got my renewal through from Bennetts I decided to shop around a bit and looked on the Ducati website as they advertise their own scheme. They managed to knock about £40 off the Bennetts quote, but, I noticed with same underwriter, Equity Red Star. A bit more research showed it to the exact same policy. I then looked at Bike Insurer and sure enough, up pops Equity Red Star, the same policy but this time at two thirds the original quote.

A phone call to Bennetts to get an explanation resulted in a refreshingly embarrassed explanation that no matter what they did they could not match the Bike Insurer buying power but they met me half way and protected my NCB at no extra cost.

So insurance is subject to the whims of market forces no differently than the corner shop and Asda, the real pisser is that we are bound by law to have to suffer it so are slaves to those whims and the subsequent small print conditions.

Welllllll that's not quite correct is it ???

If you can prove , via a notary I believe , that you have sufficient funds in your bank
account to cover any claim against you then you can give this insurance lark a swerve
Ask HRH (toffs hat in deference)

I knew you had royal blood Ken!
Should we call you Sir and tug a forelock when communicating with you from now on?

1200 big ones. OMG I don’t think I would bother. Having said that my oldest son with two years driving and NCB is paying just over a grand for a poxy Renault Clio.

I thought I was paying quite a lot considering I am 49, past my test at 17, had dozens of bikes over the years then a few years off when my kids where small due to lack of money and risk to life etc. Back on again for a few more years including a Blade, 4 years off again when I got divorced, back on last year with a 600 for a couple of months, then the blade.

500 doesn’t seem so bad now

I paid around £650 - £700 with £750 excess for Fully Comp and I am 37 with 3 years NCB. Having previously rode a GSXR-750, a 07 plate 600rr, cbr400rr I was shocked at just how much I am paying.

I am assuming it is because I have only held a full licence since October 2007, I have no points or accidents. I do wonder whether not being able to drive makes a massive difference as a mate the same age as me and the same post code area could get insured for a few hundred cheaper on my bike and he has only had his licence the same time as me.

anyone seen that article in MCN today

about the insurers arguing about when you actually hold a full licence from for those of us that did the whole 33bhp route ebike were canceling peoples policies and stuff but mce and somone else was saying they agree that its from the date you past your test

where as ebike and the insurer ombasman guy agreed with ebike that its from when your restriction ends as what dvla are doing is changing the date your licence is full when they remove the 33bhp bit when your replacement licence comes say when your picture is changed or lost they wanted more money out of someone who had been insured with them

    >.< hope mine doesnt shoot up already a fortune haha 3 years no claims and 800 quid at the mo was on a brand spank blade though so hoping it comes down some this year my 600 came down loads when it was a year old
