I went out a run at the weekend with my canon full hd camcorder on a telfiezer mount ... you footage is buttery smooth compared to mine ... My camcorder is supposed to have integrated stability where it uses gyros to remove vibration ... I'm guessing it was trying to work to hard and actually making it worse
There is a real art to getting good video footage - mounting has to be as solid as possible (not on flexing fairings), resolution high and stability turned off. iPhone and similar devices can get good results but the camera of choice def. has to be a GoPro HD or HD2, however.. they are expensive and I have seen amazing results from £5 keyring spy cameras from China which record in HD
Feedback from Class 1 bike cop / escort rider (not me) Poor observations! The blue car was close to the car to its front and it's manoeuvre could have been anticipated immediately following the passing of the opposing vehicle. Poor speed! Approaching to fast into a hazard. He hadn't gone through the overtake process properly, applying the 3 stage principles. Information, position, speed, gear and acceleration. Good avoiding action though and quick reaction! Verdict from 2nd traffic bike cop Rider should have recognised that he isn't the only person on the road who may want to overtake and the close proximity of the blue car to that of the one in front should have made the rider see that it may overtake. Car drivers forget what their mirrors are there for....
I have already switched off the IS for my next run You've just reminded me I bought one of the spy cams years ago for remote cars ... might have to dig it out
I didn't read the edit on the original post and was thinking to myself that must have been a well organized rideout!
All comments are correct, I have however removed the link and video as I do not need further, traffic cop / authority verdicts. Hope those of you who saw it learnt from my errors. All the best Shameless
They are good mates of mine, I've ridden at 170mph with one about 1' to my left 'to see how I ride' , they like to get a shift on just as much as we do, just have an annoyingly high skill level with it - I've learnt loads from their feedback / debriefs
hey no worries, most traffic boys are cool. I just like my freedom on the bike too much. Most ofthe time I am a model rider, then occasionally I get in the groove and ride it like a track day. Time for a bikesafe course.
Bikesafe is good - one of them is an assessor / instructor for that - well worth doing and not patronising (well the one I did was not)
I myself found your video very helpful as it opens your eyes to how quickly things can change and how vunerable we are while overtaking no matter how much power you have! I will be alot more vigilant in the future. I think you should keep the vid up mate as it could help/save people making the same mistake and coming off alot worse. Anyway thanks for the chance to view it
I am friends with a now ex-traffic cop, he's quick but the odd lines to keep vision to a maximum slows them down if you are out for a proper blast.
