LOL not to much to do at the moment chaps im sorry... waiting to drop the frame down to the machine shop Monday to get the welding and stuff done. started cleaning the frame up with wet & dry and getting those chopped bits looking neater. look if you behave yourselves i may take a pic of my progress later for you hehe
Lambchops I think this is the most anticipated project completion since Honda started yapping about a new 2014 model.... Keep up the good work mate it sure does wind us up with your practical prowess !
hehe, well here the progress, pitiful I know.. Been sanding and cleaning up the frame, trying to decide on the finish I want, Im liking the brushed alloy finish on the right and perhaps lightly polished on the left main part.. What do you guys and gals think?
I like the brush alloy look! Not sure about the polished look unless you've got shares in autosol lol
Yeah I know, bit 90's polished frame.. Wouldnt want it all done and not to a mirror finish im thinking perhaps a bit of both.. But do like the brushed look. I also want it to be maintenance free, going to see the anodisers when the welding is done and see what options they can suggest. other thing I was looking at was aqua blasting / vapour blasting but think its too big to fit in there booth
There a place right next to the fabricators ive used before, they did my forks prices are good too. If they cant do it I will drop you a PM SPS
Well dropped the frame down to a "precision machine shop / tool makers" today as need to get the lower engine mount opened up to accept the 12mm RR4 engine spindles. I was using the 11mm 900 engine spindle but it doesnt hold the engine firm enough so swapping over to the 12mm. Was going to drill this out myself but if its pissed... Need to make sure the holes are completely square otherwise the engine wont sit straight in the frame so needs to be jigged up to do this. Also the castle nut will be opened out to 12mm.. Bad news is wont get it back until Thursday
Thursday you say ?? ha haaaaa it ll teach you for being "SO BLOODY CLEVER"....................................You lucky sod !!!!!
Yeah will have to find something else on the bike to work on while I wait wont I Would like to start cleaning up the engine but pointless until its been the the machine shop and the frame mods are complete.. May start stripping the swinging arm down as want the same finish on this as the frame (brushed alloy finish I think now) Also im going to remove the cast "Aprilia" from it to keep folks guessing longer what it is
Thanks Dave, so do I to be honest.. I like this on the swinging arm and to have the same effect on the frame could work quite well.. Im not talking mirror finish but perhaps a certain shine to it..
Yeah still planning on fitting it, bought the 2012 head light loom ready, need to buy the RR4 headlight loom yet then cut the connector off! Need a good 2012 wiring diagram so I can see what each wire is for in the connector.. Anyone have one?
Speak to sinewave as he has the latest manual he might be able to make a PDF of the page for you and email it or add on here
Well while I wait for the frame back (tomorrow!) ive been stripping stuff down still. Rear swinger is now in pieces and so is the front end. Stripping it all down as want to change most of the black powdercoated stuff for nice silver / alloy finish this time. Also everything which isnt being repainted or blasted can be cleaned and put back together. Ive also taken a photo of the RR4 wiring connector, just need a photo of the 2012 connector now... Oh if only someone with a 2012 manual could take a photo
Shiiiiiiiit, John Wondered where you'd been hiding. Just taken over a new position at work (Operations Manager), so been pretty busy for the last couple of months, but not as busy as you by the look of it. Great work as usual, have to catch up soon. And there was me deciding if I should strip the fairing off my bike for a winter clean............... LOL. Catch Ya Soon Jim
