I couldn't agree more .. the road across the top gets a bit boring compared to the brilliant roads up to Durness ,but my mates were determined to go to john o groats as they hadn't been before .They won't be going again as it is very flat and boring and the road down from j.o.g isn't very scenic and can be policed quite often as it is the route everyone takes to go to lands end. There is the a836 just after tongue ,that goes south to lairg ,which is in the "bikers britain" book as one of the best roads, so if we do the run again this year we will cut out the boring bit and head south that way.
My wife and I are doing this on the first May bank holiday, Friday to Monday. Day 1 - central Scotland short jaunt up to Inverness area. Day 2 - the bit we are looking forward too, heading to Lochinver following the NC500 route. Day 3 - to be decided.
