Was weighing up the cheapest possible cost for a racer.

Both models comes with Akra, only SP comes with the Ohlins (electronically adjustable).

This is what upset the guys buying the SP2 with the specific idea of racing them in the USA.
I was helping a couple guys try set their SP2 up for racing and the reality is that it would have been hugely cheaper to just buy a base Honda, buy the SP2 cylinder head and then buy manual Ohlins suspension.

If the SC82 is at all like the SC77, there are no knock sensors. Honda does not believe in knock sensors on their new generation bikes :)

Not sure what you are implying here. That is it is easy to remove the electronics from the Ohlins and turn them manual?

It is - you buy an $2000 Ohlins cartridge kit for the forks and a complete new TTX shock for another $1800.

So its not cheap to go from Ohlins ECS to Ohlins manual, but serious riders prefer the manual Ohlins for competition use.

Ok - wasn't trying be an arsehole by my response, just wasn't sure how else to address the issue :)

The Ohlins ECS is a street suspension marketed as a race suspension - and in the end is really just for street bragging rights and gets in the way of serious track use - so still not sure why it is not an option, since bikes bought for track use have the ECS just adding tot he build cost.

What I'm implying here is that all this talk about "serious riders" and manual suspension is cheap.

This serious rider, on exactly the same bike was doing 1:42 at Jerez in January where I met him (unfortunately dont have a video from Jerez)

I see you will say his a top one, which I will agree on. Clubman level Joes were doing 1:50s on electronic BMW Gen4 suspension.

So no, it's not a street suspension. It does have smaller adjustment capabilities but it the same quality as FKR/TTX.
Obviously you need to sprung it to right weight.

Except its not me that says the OEM ECS setups are street suspensions, its the OEMs and Ohlins themselves.

These are the mass produced discounted versions of the actual competition grade suspensions Ohlins sells.

There is a reason a new set of race Ohlins costs $12,000 and the OEM ECS costs $3500.00.The quality of the components.

I'm not talking about full-blown racing stuff like FGR, surely it's excellent for those moneys.

In my opinion, in 2020, semi-automatic Ohlins or BMW DDC have advanced to the entry-level manual cartridges. The only downside that I see is less levels of adjustments (my Mupo AB1 shock has 40 clicks comp/rebound adjustment).

But overall, that stuff is good. 1:42 on Ohlins ECS (altho from Ducati) is 4 seconds of WSBK record at Jerez. He did 1:34 at Valencia, that WSBK race lap time. It was on 1.1l engine, but still.

    Thanks for the link.

MCN are mainstream media - German owned. I do not trust them anyway. Most of his piece was subtle opinion forming - compare that to the review from the Italian journo.

What exactly is it you don't like or trust about the Germans mate? It's a bit ridiculous to discount people's opinion just because there is a loose connection to Germany.

It was a reference to German corporate dishonesty - for which there are still ongoing lawsuits around the world - already fines in the tens billions for outright dishonesty as well as criminal convictions. My point was entirely to do with that - German corporate dishonesty - which is not anything to do with tin foil hats.

The other point is that the mainstream media is more widely distrusted than ever. We in the 21st century face corporate dishonesty and opinion forming through their use of proxies and opinion formers.

If it is any consolation dislike and distrust the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as well - I am not alone in that either.

May I suggest you watch less television and read more.;)

    I read plenty thanks mate.

So you're saying Michael Neeves has submitted his written article and youtube video but because the newspaper he works for is owned by a German company that it can't be trusted?
