I have one on my car, gets some looks from the cops when they do a roadside tax/insurance check. on the bad side I got stopped at the same checkpoint by the same cop three times so I think he was making a point of it lol.
Have my tax disk just below my seat on rr5 , them tax holders for cars would give unwanted attention from the boys in blue
I always keep my car one under my rear view mirror, so I can't see it from the driving seat. It used to get queried by police and told it needs to be on the left side of the car. I pointed out that it is ... it's left of center on the windscreen (just). Cop shrugged and walked away I don't think they really care as long as it's paid. I keep the bike one in the seat just in case I need to produce it on demand. Everything's digital nowadays, so one quick check with APNR or whatever should show that I'm licensed/insured/taxed.
Yes, but an Anal Cop can still Ticket you as the Law states it has to be on FULL DISPLAY, not tucked under the seat etc just in case they ask
Does it? I went looking for that full display bit once and couldn't find anything that stated that... But I may just be blind... H
i found this place to be not bad and mr plod never batted an eyelid was i was stopped at Mll check point.
When i had my 600F (3 years) I NEVER had my tax disc on the bike... It was always in my bag (Except the one I lost). Never got tickets (Including parking in London), and never got asked for it (Even when pulled over for riding in the bicycle lane under admiralty arch My 600RR (had) and blade (have) a holder installed by the same dealer... H
Where to display the tax disc What the Law says: Where to display the disc For motorcycles, the tax disc should be displayed on the near-side of the bike (on the kerb side of the vehicle). The vehicle licence (tax disc) explained
The Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002 "(a)in the case of an invalid vehicle, tricycle or bicycle, other than in a case specified in sub-paragraph (b) or (c) of this paragraph, on the near side of the vehicle"
Its those words that make me wonder if we are missing the point, why the fuck are we paying road tax!!! Not only are the roads shocking and our bikes a minority vehicle, but even as car drivers we are all being stealth taxed. Its a subject that doesnt just boil my wee, but makes it bubble over with rage. Road tax should be in the with the fuel duty for fucks sake, big tax bracket vehicles are already paying more in fuel duty due to their inefficiency and the DVLA, Police & government would save a fortune in administrating Tax Discs. This shouldn't be politics, it should be common fucking sense [rant mode off]
Mines in a holder on the back of the number plate. Uses the same bolt as a small button reflector. Never been as issue as long as its displayed as apparently the fine is the same if you don't display as if you weren't taxed at all.
In short, road tax (or Vehicle Excise Duty) goes to the same place as your income tax, VAT and the rest: the exchequer’s coffers. Then they divvy it all up for national spending. In 2010, UK drivers paid about £5bn in road tax, while the government spent just under £9.5bn on our roads. But add other motoring taxes like fuel tax, motorists paid about £27bn in total.
I get that bit, but you can see how stealth taxes work by splitting up the charges in the first place and then adding the payments back up together again like they think we are stupid. It makes no sense for the government to charge more (if any) road tax on bikes that cause no damage to the roads and then claim that the tax is for road use??? In this case they should tell the truth and either use ALL of the money for the roads or give up calling it a Road Fund License if its not all used for funding the road. Bloody politicians.
M11 checkpoint? Where was that then I'm up and down the M11 every day never seen that... Your a brave man by the way getting the bike out in the snow...
