Cheers Dave, I wanted one of the other designs but they are priced at £699 couldn’t justify the extra £300 at the moment.

Ah, I can only just squeeze into a large HJC, unfortunately, especially since they changed the sizing so a large went from a 60 to a 59.

Sounds just right for @dainesefreak - if he's after a matching helmet, of course.

That must surely be a case of right place at the right time! Good on ya! Carbon hugger, tyres, helmet . . . you're really going for it, Paul. Surely the 'hidden funds' must be drying up now:D?

Anybody tried a Bell helmet recently ?

Fast Bikes mag has a feature on the new technology that is being used in their helmets:
FLEX technology - something about different layers of inner liner that react at different impact speeds, and moulds to the head shape better than traditional single layer foam linings.
Then there is something about MIPS - which is some sort of inner liner that allows the other linings to move around a bit inside the helmet, to combat rotational forces that can occur in an impact.

Sounds fantastic, and they do some nice colours as well (including a nice TT version).

I had a bell M6 a couple years back. Loved it. Only changed as my mate drove over it in a range rover at a trackday!

Still got it as a display item lol.

I looked at their stuff a couple of years ago. They made a couple of really nice carbon lids and the build quality looked great. From what I heard they then disappeared from the UK for a few months, something to do with falling out with or changing the UK distributor. It was quite annoying as I was just looking to buy one of their lids and the stocks had dried up; that's how I ended up looking at X-Lite.

MIPS has been around for a while, especially in the cycling world. Basically it's an inner liner that fits around the head and allows the outer shell to move around in an impact/slide reducing rotational force. When you come off the shell can twist or turn due to fiction against surfaces. The MIPS liner lets the shell move around a certain amount to reduce the twisting motion and reduce injury. I've had a MIPS mountain bike helmet for a couple of years and it was only £20 or so dearer than the standard one, was a no brainer if it does what the research says.

I went to try that tt version one on when it was in J&S at Doncaster but it felt quite heavy & just wasn't the right fit for my head. The carbon ones felt better. J&S were an outlet for them but don't know if they still are.

Interesting - and I can't think that I have even seen one in the flesh. They have some expensive ones as well - maybe for next time !
