Been running PR3s all winter, absolutely no issues, quick warm up, good feedback, fantastic wet and cold grip and traction, no issues on the edge in current conditions, low wear rate, sure there are tyres much better suited to track of course but cannot see much downside with these for the road, all from a tyre with a tread pattern that looks like its more suited to a car, again if you don't need the mileage and/or wet grip then there is more suited rubber available, but if you overrun these puppies on the road consistently then that license is in danger
I am running BT016's, and have been since wearing out the Qualifiers that were on it when I bought it. Tried them as my mate, who is way faster than me, has them on his R1. Missus is running super sticky Contis on her 600RR, so may try them next.
Hi Guys This is my rear Bridgestone Battlax S20 tyre from my 2012 Fireblade. Mileage was 1,750 when I noticed this split. Has anyone seen this before, and have any idea what could have caused it? Also as the tyre will need replacing, am I best to change the front at the same time for best handling? Any other alternatives to the S20 would be appreciated, although I am happy with the S20, your opinions would be appreciated. Thank you Jules
Looks like you have ran over something there. Could have been anything really. It doesn't look like separation if that what you are asking about though??
Yes it seems you've ran over sumat sharp like a shard of metal plate or something. General concensus on here for good all round road tyres are Michelin PR3's, Metzeler M5 Sportec and Dunlop Sportsmart. Run PR3's myself and outside of a Track Day or being a Licence losing lunatic I can't see anyone needing more on the road.
Fitted a pair of new Metzler M5s on today, for the first time. Done a quick 100 miles this afternoon and just about scrubbed them in now. Wow! These puppies stick to the road like a dried-on fox carcass. Fabulous!! Can't remember who recommended them but thanks - great choice. Been running Dunlop Qualifiers before and they're crap in comparison. Can't wait to get these out for a proper run. Not sure what those level indicators are all about though.
seen a few peeps on track with these running well in the fast group, dave v ground his blobs off, and seen a few lunatics run them on the road in scotland .... they look a bloody awesome tyre! so good that i stuck them on the R1 for my upcoming euro tour.
Just put a new set on. last set lasted 4.5k out of the rear, 8k from the front. Mix of touring in Europe, fast road and commuting.
just had michelin power pilot 3s fitted going to scrub them in tomorrow had bt016 on back only did 1600 miles and dead bt015 front did 4500 that was 1 weekend on the i.o.m and the scotland trip for the back
I'm blown away by the Michelin Pilot Power 3s I've had fitted to mine! Best tyre I've ever used! I've gone for a 190/55 rear as I normally do anyway. Just returned this evening from France so have tested them over 1500 miles in both wet (intense thunderstorm wet I might add!), damp, and dry. In all conditions they're fantastic! Stick like sun-baked road kill in the dry and terrific feedback in the wet that just inspires confidence as you know exactly what they're doing. Highly recommended from my perspective and I'll be replacing them with the same again when they wear out. No sign of wear yet mind you...! Sam
Fitted a set of Dunlop GP racers, best fast road/Trackday tyres currently on the market. Absolutely superb both on road and on track.
I'm looking to invest in some new tyres, have currently got the dual compound michelins. All road riding as I've not braved a track day yet, I don't really ride in the wet and wear level is unimportant as I don't do enough miles for it to be relevant so given these what are the best tyres and where's good to buy them from. I can get them fitted locally so mail order is fine Thanks
As has been said before tyres are a very personal thing but I've got Michelin Pilot Power 2CT on mine. They're an older tyre now but the upside of that is that they're a bit cheaper. I've never unstuck them on the public road apart from when I was being really really hamfisted. A lot of people seem to be raving about Michelin Pilot Road 3. I'm thinking of switching to those next but I'll probably just buy another set of 2CTs. Great tyre and not too expensive.
I've got 2CT's on mine now, have never had anything to compare them with so don't know how good/bad they are. Just read that the blades at the TT are running Dunlops but I suspect they are miles different from what you can buy off the shelf
