I don't want to throw the cat amongst the pidgeons here, but I would have a good think about converting a road bike over to race spec. It is something I looked at prior to getting my current R6, getting a good road going R6 and converting, but weighed it up and it would be mentally expensive. There are lots of things that you end up needing that you don't initally think about.
It's in track trim already mate. Already got wow's. need new rear shock, maybe internals and rearsets. Should be ok to get me going!?
Jimbo a must for you is either a sticker on your bike or on leathers for when you race-"ITS HAMMERTIME"
It sounds as though you are nearly there then. Have a look for a rear shock, get the K-Tech valve kit (about £350) for the forks, see if Diamond Racing have any rearsets for £150 and happy days. Buy spare clip-ons, standard levers (fancy ones break exactly the same and cost 4-5 times as much to replace) and a spare set of crash bungs.
K-tek valves were on my wish list anyway, also diamond as my pal uses them and rates them. spare clip ons a good shout! have spare standard levers since i put fancy ones on! but dont have crash bungs lol so need 2 sets. also need engine casings.... best guess price list: Valve kiy £350 shock £500? 2nd hand rear sets £150 casings £170 crash bungs £75 clip ons £30 braided lines £80 need tyre warmers £150 good job crimbo is coming up!! lol
You need to remember that K-tech no longer allow you to just buy they're kit anymore and fit it yourself. They now only sell to the suspension companies, who then charge for fitting. You are then talking £500. Or alternatively speak to Andy at Demon Tweeks, who does a good deal on Ohlins piston kits.
I bought a second hand Nitron Pro Race shock for £350 and it is more than fine. With tyre warmers, see if Diamond will do a deal on rearsets and their warmers. Their warmers are superb and get up to 95degrees, rather than 80-85 for a lot of others. It does make a difference. I use their warmers and rearsets and love em! With casings, get GB racing ones, as I have heard a few people say that the R&G ones aren't so great. The R&G main crash bungs are spot on however. Clip ons may be slightly more expensive and I would suggest going for again either Diamond ones or Renthal. Sounds as though you may be in with a good deal with Diamond racing!!
Have a look at this Jimbo Honda CBR1000RR CBR 1000 RR Fireblade WP White Power Rear Shock Absorber Shocker | eBay
think i'll put a call into Diamond as might do a deal on rearsets, warmers and clip ons - nice one! was going to get the GB covers & R&G bungs so all good Robin cheers.
