True, but some of my analogies employ a bit of poetic licence.:)

from no mark to full mark it only takes around 200ml so it is not much. But the low oil pressure light would suggest you have quite a bit less. But still enough to lubricate the engine but not enough to help with cooling. I always put 2.8L after an oil+filter change to give me 60% level on the dipstick.

Very interesting, I assumed MFL meant max fluid level and looking at nigel's photo holding the dipper correctly to read it, the max line is to the right of it. The end of the dipper is the minimum level I guess.

Correct. Merely a warning to the owner: 'Hey, I need more oil.'

I'd actually painted similar marks on my wife's inner thighs.:)

be carefull with that picture. Those quantties are for dry engine (no oil whatsoever) or a rebuilt one: i.e the first fill
    The service quantities are 2.8 & 3.
I have seen in various forums people making the mistake of using 3.7L for an oil change; no wonder the poor engine was drowned in it and burnt it! I suspect this was the culprit behind some RR8's oil buring problem

If you look at 2 stroke engines they have a sniff of oil on the bearings and bore mixed with the fuel and work ok
They would be more than happy with 2.2 lts :D

Being from Yorkshire it breaks my heart doing an oil change when it is at the top of the dipstick :)
