non OEM oil filter

    I think the problems are with the ones with the nut that leak

    I heard the welds break on them

    Yeah I’ve done a bit of reading, and it seems that it’s the spot welds on the nut that is the problem, possibly due to people using a spanner to install the filter. Which is what I think I did on the 748 :(

    I’m going to be ordering a couple of hiflo’s in a minute.

    Just drain the oil, change the filter and pour the same back with a top up.
    At least the filter media doesn’t break down

    K&N issued a recall on certain serial numbers of oil filters, I remember checking mine.

    If you've used the nut to torque it down though it could be worth changing it anyway.

    Being a Ducati desmo you probably don’t know this is an important step:

    3. Filter the metally bits out of the oil. 4. Put the oil back in the engine which is now 27g lighter.

    like coda mentioned, the pot weld on the nut is the weak point.
    I also read some people torque the filter using the nut and it splits. The nut is for removing the filter only.
    My preference is for those without the nut just to avoid this issue
