Sorry to hear that you are going through tough times, I hope the infection is under control. Wish you all the best buddy.
Recovery - going well I think... Found out last week once they tested the infection.. Its MRSA..the super bug.. Now on 2 super strong antibiotics for 6 weeks and some super strong painkillers.. excruciating pain - some of which the pain killers relive maybe 40%..the rest I have to live with for a while.. Tried to walk - feels bloody wired with all them pins inside my leg..keep hearing weired noise..like iv snapped something..
I used to find that when I stood up from the normal 'rest' position (foot above head) that for the first 30 seconds or so of being vertical it felt like somebody had put funnels in all the blood vessels in my leg and was pouring boiling water from the kettle into them. Really eye wateringly uncomfortable.
It used to feel like that..not any more.. I guess once this infection is sorted..I will start feeling the other pain that the infection has stopped me from feeling...lol..something to look forward too...as when the infection hurts I can't feel the pain under my foot...when it hurts less..foot pains back.. I think its nerve pain...really sharp tingling feeling under the foot..and it bloody hurts..
That's the real killer. The break hurt and hurt badly, but where the tendons had been damged at their anchor points in my foot arch the discomfort was particularly cruel.
Glad to hear things are on the mend. The walking thing is quite weird but I'm getting used to it,however think I over didn't Monday and have had to take it easy for a couple of days, roll on the 15th for my next appointment/assessment.
Well..infection is dead - still need to take another 4 weeks of antibiotics... Now feeling all kinds of pain in my leg and foot...and realised its been over a month now.. So force myself to walk..I'd say I can put about 30% weight on my left foot when walking.. Drove my car today...automatic...still with my right foot.. Managed it ok... Trying to remember what it was like when I broke my wrist and cracked 3 ribs 4 years back...not this bad I think... I thought I would have some dirty scabbing, but no..new skin is coming out and closing the hole...very interesting... Looks a million times better then day 1! (Over 30 days on...)
Thanks...slow..but getting there..have a xray in 2 weeks, will find out the progress - bone was shattered on the xray..so will be interesting to know how much it has healed... My new toy has arrived..was not too difficult convincing the wife..as she got 300 odd club card points from tesco..lol Just need to hop over and some how get it connected to the amp...lol
Good luck with your next review in two weeks and good to see the infection has cleared up. D Day for me is tomorrow afternoon with possible removal of the dog bone screwed to my leg, then a further 2 - 3 weeks of none weight bearing with 4 months of no running or heavy lifting after, has been a bloody long tunnel this one but I'm hoping to see the end of it soon.
I'm not sorry to bang on, Don't get complacent with the Medicine, keep taking on time every time. I have seen these things go wrong. But yours looks great, much better the Medics must be happy. Mike.
Spoke to someone today..they work with solicitors in Italy around claims like these - will call me back Some hope better then none is good I guess
Small update.. Feel better, i can now walk with 1 crutch, well have been little for the last 5 days - managed a 30min walk yesterday and today. Also started cycling on a machine, other little exercises still going.. even though the infection is gone, still have 2 more weeks of the 2 super strong antibiotics left.. Its now been just little over 2 months - and i just want this thing off my leg...! Have an xray this Wednesday, so fingers crossed..also i need a Physico but feel the frame will restrict me.. want to do so much, but amazing how little you can do without a proper working leg..
oh..not sure if i mentioned this.. My bike is back..also i just bought this... Alpine Z4 3.4L not told the wife yet...and its in my brother garage.. I so want my leg back!!
Just a small update.. My insurance allowance finished...so was today at the Royal London Orthopaedic Hospital - were there consultant who operated on me works.. What a nightmare of a day.. 1 hour wait for an xray. Consultant saw me straight away. 2.5 hours wait for the nurse to clean my pin sites..took em an hour just to try to track down the nurse..then an hour to find the dressings...NHS!! Then the nurse put a plaster on my wound and the sticky bit on were the blood was...got home and changed it!! Wounds healing well..think one more week and then it will be fully cooked.. The bone has not healed much in a month..he said possibly due to the infection I had.. Have sharp pain when I walk in the back of my leg..thought it was my bone..but doc said its my Achilles tendant...so soon as I got home..got on YouTube, and have started stretching it..feels better all ready.
Good news, mixed with, It'll take time. At least you are going forward not back. NHS can drive you spare but the doctors are some of the best in the world. You'll be Triple jumping before long. Mike.
