Good to see thinks for you are going in the right direction. I've been luck with the NHS at North Staffs, each appointment usually take an hour but the ones I've had back here in Wales,4 hours to xray hip and then say everything looks ok see you in 6 months :-(, however I can't fault them for putting my hip back in place. Next appointment for me is next Wednesday so hoping the metalwork is coming off. However like you Sam walk is painful after a while mainly from the muscle running down the front of my leg and some pain at side of knee, guess I'll have to give it time.
Well Sam I'm sad to report I've another 4 weeks with the metalwork on my leg still not strong enough :-(
Oh no...how is your weight bearing - can you stand without crutches...? And walk with 1 crutch? I starterd my physico last week.. Its not a fun process...I have hammer toes..were the toes curl down...but due.to mussle tightness...its pain full trying to fix it..but have realised the more I work at it the quicker I will get my foot mobilised. I was on 2 crutches for 1.5 weeks, then down to one crutch for a week and now I can walk around with no crutches but still need little more stretching.. But as long as I can walk and get my foot back..I think I'll be happy.. Have an xray in 4 weeks..there no progress on the last xray..(2months after my accident)
Can walk without crutches and can manage about 1 1/2 miles but leg sore after that. Can manage going up stairs now but that has only happened in the last few days, so progressing. My X-ray after 11 weeks showed no signs of healing but Professor Thomas told me I must walk and weight bear on it more, so that's what I did. Week 18 and a good growth of bone, so the walking helped. Here I am at week 22 and although strong now when he flexed my leg after collets were remove there was still movement but pin did spring back to middle of holes. Roll on 4 weeks just hope that's it! Well good luck with your next X-ray Sam lets hope things are moving along for you.
I know what you mean about the photos Gilesy, the one that gets me still is the one of me in intensive care, still sends shivers down my spine and it's things like that which really make you see how indestructible you aren't :-(
I wonder when I can walk without crutches will I be able to do some basic tasks like wash my car..or some diy jobs... Fedup of not being able to do anything... Been working on my foot as much as I can stretching pulling to get it movong more and more... Someone suggested this...have you heard of it http://taniamarieartist.wordpress.com/2012/02/29/comfrey-poultices-bone-mending-magick/
Just read the article and it mentions the walking around on it same as this Professor I'm seeing, his fixator thing he invented bents 1mm with every 20 Kgs of weight put on it, so my weight 90 kgs equals 4.5mm of movement at the break. This is suppose to cause the body to produce more bone cells which it has in my case but now they need to calcify to give the bone strength, he reckon because it was a high impact fracture that this is why it is take time to heal and the fact there was a fair few broken pieces. As to doing stuff I just got on with it including fix my car with the only problem of kneeing down as metal thing sticks in floor :-( I would suggest just do what you feel comfortable with including the walking and increase stuff as and when like I've been doing I.E. the stair for me, only managed them this week without using the crutches to get up them. PS I have been taking calcium plus tablets from Healthspan to help the old body, not sure if its working but can't harm to try I think.
I was £20 for a 2 hr session.. if you contact your Doctor, he should be able to tell you where the nearest one is for MS sufferers.
MS Sufferer? Going to the doctors is a headache...will do at last resort..i guess it would mean a referal and waiting time? Called London Hyperbaric Home - London Hyperbaric they said they dont allow oxygen for my condition left a message for Harrow MS Therapy Centre - “Self-help is our way of action.†Going to see a GP, will try this tomorrow, will i need a referal? tif so there will be a waiting list...no?
Okay...so is it worth a go.. Will cost me £340.. Found a charity local to me have been running the oxygen for 30 odd years, breakdown of costs as follows Membership: £30 for the year Mask: £70 Min of 20 sessions 1.5hours each: £12 per session Downside, have to go see my GP to get them to sign the membership forum!
Have had a read up on that "Knitbone" (Comfrey) and you can buy it as an oil you rub on the affected area. It works by increasing the blood flow in that area promoting healing of the affected area. Might give it a try, been looking here. Potters Comfrey Oil | Holland & Barrett - the UK's Leading Health Retailer As for the oxygen chamber that is way off obtainable for me as SSP I'm been paid at the moment just about covers the cost of living with the only luxury been Sky TV and Internet so will have to rely on Mother Nature sadly :-(
Funny someone else mentioned Comfrey..did check it but it looked complicated - but that oil looks like its worth a try at £4 I feel you pain..maybe the doctors can refer you to a oxygen chamber place? saying that...you will be up and walking soon.. My consultant said that rather then taking calcium tablets, take foods etc that make the body produce natural calcium - not something i am doing but i just remembered this.. my leg started swelling up - were the brake is..but on the outside part of my leg..noticed this yesterday after the trip to the physico and some more exercises in the evening,..maybe it was just muscle getting tense..
What I did is similar.. was an MS charity local to me. They had their own hyperbaric chamber and you wear the mask for the first 15 mins as the pressure inside the chamber is increased. Once up to pressure, you take the mask off and breath in the pure pressurised oxygen along whith who else is in the tank. Take plenty of magazines as I was 2hr sessions at a time. Then mask back on for dropping the pressure (ears pop etc) and then your out! The MS sufferers in there with me said the difference was remarkable in their quality of life after being in these tanks. I did 2 sessions a week from memory for 3-4 weeks and my wrist healed in recond time acording to the hospital!
Sam....can't offer any advice but you have my sincere best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.....what a nightmare you are experiencing. GWS
