Well where do I start? It must be the worst trackday Ive done for a while! Decided to go the night before so booked a premier inn. On the way there I got a blow out on the van and nearly took out the car next to me but did manage a nice 180! The stress had started! Set off at 6.45 to get to a garage with the other 1000rr's but got there and thought "mmm still no text" I hung around until 7.30 and the garages where filling so I just found a corner in garage 1. After unloading everything I thought I'd call the wife and that's when I realised I'd left my phone on charge in the hotel! I had borrowed a rear wheel of a friend as I had a slick on one rim and a racetech on my other so I stuck my wet on his rim that he'd bought recently. I decided it would be better to go full wets but the back wheel wouldn't spin freely and after a lot of thinking and swearing I could see that someone had used normal bolt heads on the disc and it was catching! After changing them and stressing on a new track for me it was time for the first session. For some reason I just could not get everything working between me and the bike. By the third session I was on racetechs and starting to piece the track together and linking sections but I was very slow! I usually run mid to top end of inters but yesterday I felt I would have been fine with the novices, its been a long time since I've been passed by so many! After lunch I actuly started to enjoy the track and was running mid pace and only being passed by a few and to be fair they were very bad moves in my opinion. I always give plenty of room when I catch and pass a slower bike but yesterday I saw some shocking moves! Fair play to one lad, he did come looking for me to appolagise as he said it was a dumb move sorry! The last session was the best as it was a fairly clear track for me but watching the footage last night I was rolling off in so many places so now I will have to go back there as looking at my footage I'm lapping at around 2.10 so I think thats not all that good for Oulton. I'm sorry to miss you guys but I'm sure we will catch up on the next one!
Garrod, sounds like you had a bit of a nightmare! When you're stressed as you obviously were it's bound to affect you on track. Why don't you have another go at it on March 8th Saturday? There's a few of us going and you're welcome in our garage, send me a pm with your mobile and I'll make sure I contact you on the morning with garage number.
Thanks but I`m away rallying that weekend, gutted really as I rally for a living so I must work! I hate leaving a track with this feeling so it wont be long before I`m back there!
Always wanted to be taken out on a Rally Stage by a decent Driver! Thanks for the offer garrod, I'm available anytime that suits!
I'm sure if Barney had of taken it he would have kept the 'burst mode' going a bit longer and got my Bike with it's wheel in the air also!
Finally got round to doing a few virtual on board laps with you J. Very Good footage that. Look forward to the real deal very soon
