Great day missed a few sessions due to damp conditions and most of us couldn't be bothered to put wets on I had said from the start no wet riding with me going Spain next week on my bike didn't want to risk a silly crash. Jimbo did very well but just outside the sub 1.50 did a 1.50.3 so very close so no Mankini thank god ,lets just say next time he does oulton I won't be doing the bet YT bloody hell this lad has improved with his racing right in the mix with us on the 1000cc bikes and set his new lap record of 1.52 so good luck racing at oulton and his first at oulton with no problems . Still not happy with my suspension set up so will reposition forks for Donny on Thursday see if I can improve it as it just wanted to be on the back wheel today . Mad Matt the crazy dude on his brand new bike was going well so watch this space with his lap time predictions . Thanks to everyone that came down to watch always a pleasure to see everyone.
Yup, as said, close but no cigar.... thought I had it in the bag last session, but was always going to go down to the wire, set myself up for last few lap last chance saloon laps but had to come in as had qs/gearbox issues.... Gutted No excuses though, tbh not sure it would of come, but not through want of trying! But did make it an exiting day must admit.... Great day with great lads.... Good to share the track with tyke (all day lol) who was going really well.... Big thanks to scooby who hot me up to speed quickly and offered some valuable tip (jase wasn't so forthcoming for some reason ha) Bike issues aside, a top top day, and I'm loving oulton! Got my mojo back after that poxy go kart track cadwell Thanks all for coming, was great seeing the crew!!
Top top day everyone!! Really enjoyed it and it was fantastic to see everyone again. Bike felt mint, still lots to learn but had a belter. Cheers guys
Thanks Jimbo, it was fantastic to see everyone and as always a great laugh. I love turning up for these days just for the crack and even though it means i have to work all day Sunday now, well worth it.... So impressed with Jimbo's times considering its the first time he's had a few sessions there in the dry, down to a 1:50 in less than 2 hours of riding Oulton.. You not only have balls of steel but also the skill to back it up buddy... Yorkshire is not only quick, 1:52 on an R6 for fook sake but a propa nice guy and imo could be really really good at this, he flew past me as if i was standing still, i will make the effort to come and watch you race at Oulton mate... Scooby and Jase were just fast as always and i think we were all secretly please to not see Jase running through the pit lane naked Big thanks to Barney for coming along to take pictures and having the crack, he doesn't get enough credit imo for all the support he gives.... Special thanks to Jay my pit crew chief, hope your on track mate asap mate i know you miss it.... Now for my performance and bike. The zx10 was epic, a stupidly quick bike with so so so much potential, if Jimbo had been riding it he'd of smashed 1:40 let alone 1:50.. Even with road tyres it stuck to the track like glue and never missed a beat. Keeping the front wheel down in places was a new challenge and i may need new rear sets that give higher foot position. Suspension felt very good and no unusual tyre wear so alls good there. She turned on a dime, struggled in the first session but that was just me learning the track i think because it was just perfect for the remaining two sessions. I really can't fault the bike in anyway and am so happy with the change.... If I'm honest i thought my performance was shit, 2:11 in the first session but eventually got that down to 2:00 dead which is a huge disappointment regardless of what anyone says. I am more than happy for the piss taking to begin, NO, in fact i insist you lot take the piss as this is what i need for encouragement. I don't like all this, "well its a respectable time", "you've only ever done one and a half days". Truth of the matter is that this is going to be much harder than i first thought but make no mistake it doesn't change anything. I will still meet my final targets next year if it means i do 3 track days a week. I know it can be done, i feel i can do it, I'm confident i can do it..... I failed today but will try even harder to correct this..... I suspect many of my huge sponsors will be pulling the plug as i type Thanks all....
Thanks for the kind words buddy, but i also failed my target but racing is the only thing that's made me find that pace on new tracks.... Takes you out your comfort zone and pushes you on... Look at tyke, 3 secs of Pb first time out at oulton in over a year?? No substitute for time on the bike and some decent rubber with the bike in track trim you'll drop 5 secs in no time. No gunna say, what a respectable debut it was though, as quite frankly it was shite... Lol 6/10 must try harder ha ha...
Good read that Matt but gotta say mate new bike on road tyres your beating yourself up well done to all I'm still well jel hopefully see you at Oultonif you pop Matt Marquez
I think everyone did really well, it was nice to see everyone home in one piece too! Thanks scooby for your tips and tech!
Sounds like you all had a great day. Hats off to you all for the guts and drive and determination. If I was 25 years younger (at least) I would be there as well, wallowing around at the back. Keep on having fun, sounds like you have all gelled really well, great to hear you are all having fun.
