Cool, what would you say is the easiest galaxy to capture just with my DSLR on a tripod ? And what stars do I look out for to frame it ? I can find Polaris by tracking from the plough , where do I go from there mate ?
No iPhone mate but there is a few night sky apps , not sure why I didn't think of getting one of those in the first place
you can try some online guides that give you the best time for viewing.also can add a twist by catching the international space station on its fly over using this site NASA - Spot The Station
Andromeda is probably the easiest galaxy to see. Visible with the naked eye, very near Cassiopeia, a constellation very much like a wide 'W', high in the east at this time of year. Get Star Walk for your iPhone mate. The Orion Nebula is easy to spot too. Just below the belt, in what's known as the sword. It's a true nebula, a gas cloud, a star nursery, whereas andromeda is another galaxy like our own milky way, coming our way very fast. It's currently 2.5 million light years away so don't worry about missing it.
The NORAD one always scares me a bit. You know the cousin's preponderance for blue on blue buddy spikes.
