Ha so true! Spend thousands on ti and carbon whilst tucking into a bacon sarnie lol... But weight aside, the abs isn't always relivke and to me that means far un safer than standard brakes.... My view is you pull the lever, breaks works, bike stops.... Don't really see why that should be complicated. But imo it's up to you, your bike and your requirements. Just make sure that you do us research
Ha don't think I've spoke to the mrs all weekend just been reading so many reviews and doing research.. So many mixed reviews but seems lot of ppl are anti abs but not heard anyone saying wish didn't have it. I just think on country roads it's a good tool to have I might be wrong but if do get the SP over the standard they all have abs now anyway
I've got sp and I'm 5 7 fits me fine have occasionally gotten sore wrist with it but that's probably due to being unfit! the thinner seat is the biggest killer!
There you go mate, put me in the camp of wish I did not have it, in fact glad I do jot have it, that's why like many ABS owners I dumped a perfectly good bike, lost a s**tload of wedge and bought a new non ABS last year! you don't do that if the system is perfect! trust me
My One is the 2014 non abs didn't want abs after reading all the problems people were having here! It's night and day the difference between the sp and my old 2011 blade. Suspension is so smooth as the engine definetly worth the extra!
I've never had it just for a few days on a demo and loved it but obv that ain't long enough for true reflection! Why didn't you like it and what were the problems? I'm not taking the bike on a track if it was track based reasons.
There are still some new 2014 Non ABS HRC SP around http://www.castlemotorcycles.co.uk/used/honda/cbr/cbr1000rr-sp/castleford/west-yorkshire/8121 discounted now as they didn't sell well. Surprised Honda have dropped the Non ABS for the SP for 2015.
I think with 2016 models coming out in November/December and I'm wanting the repsol il get 2015 model and it's only £600 more than that 2014 with abs and a 2015... Decisions decisions just can't decide standard or SP tho am swaying SP
Resale should be a lot better on the SP. When I bought my nearly new 2014 RR-E the equivalent SP was approx. £4k more!
Not track issues, but road, if you get an ABS that plays up, then it gets all the usual symptoms from soft lever, to total brake failure ie the lever hits the bar but the bike does not slow at all, you get used to it and can ride around it, but ultimately on a dark wet night on the A2, it gets a bit tiresome playing Russian roulette trying to second guess if you are either going to stop or hit the back of the stationary car at 60 mph. Factor in anything from 5 hours upwards for a dealer brake fluid change, that's if they get it working straight away, a number of members on here, myself included have lost bikes for a number of days whilst they re bleed and rebleed again to get them safe.
SP all day long over the standard for a poxy £1800 more! U R getting over £2K of Ohlins, £600 of Brembo's, Blu printed engine, numerous other upgrades, tiz a No Brainer. ABS I'd do without until Honda dump there own system for a Bosch which they'll do on the Blades replacement. I'm sure there is a European Directive that stipulates all Bikes over a certain capacity or type must have ABS from 2015/16? I like Kenty p/x'd an ABS Blade cause it was crap and failed on me, gearbox is Mickey Mouse too.
Absolutely SP all the way, but if it were me looking I would be looking for a non-ABS one, brake failure is not something I think I would survive, no matter how small the chance of it happening
I have gone standard .. Although your right about the extras on a SP the standard felt a lot better for me I was to stretched over the tank n the SP it is a noticeable diff in riding position .. If I was 6foot or doing track days I'd have def chose the sp but I'm not and the standard felt so much better.. It's all good having those extras on a sp but if the bike don't feel right then they count for nothing in my eyes.. Was tough decision but think was the right 1... Please don't piss on my bonfire and say it wasn't ha
The riding position for 2014 onwards and SP is the same? Enjoy the new bike - really like the 2015 Repsol colours (and that's from an HRC owner!)
No the bars on the so are wider and set slightly further forward with no adjustment it felt a lot bigger and the standard felt just right... I went with the intention of getting the SP but after lots of hopping on and off each bike the standard felt so much better for me... Cheers guys just praying for nice weather now
Could you get some of that for me too please, maybe one or two others would be grateful of it too if you can order some up
