    Hi JM1,
I have same model as yours (RR8) and I convinced myself that it was running slightly better as a result of unhooking the exhaust flap cable. But any change is very minor, as you suggest in later post and I may well be wrong (not the first time). Reduction in back pressure must slightly lean the mix, but judging from the level of carbon deposit in the outlet, this is probably no bad thing anyway.
Whatever the real result, it does make the bike a bit less quiet at <6000 RPM and is visually undetectable and totally reversible in about 1 minute flat, so it's worth anyone having a go and then reverting to standard if they decide it's no good.

Standard cans go very cheap, I noticed one on eBay with about a day left sat at 69p and 10quid postage I would buy one and mess about with baffles and worst case can stick yours back on.

when i did it, it made the bike feel feel really lumpy and chuggy in low gears, low speed stuff, sounded better, felt worse.
No noticeable effects when riding properly at speeds.

i ended up buying an aftermarket can too. brilliant, doesn't feel any different but sounds a whole lot better.
