Shame - could just see him with a slide projector trying to get order (mind you he is / was a copper) while 20 odd folk heckle him - be like being back at school!
His latest blog is up ,make yourself a brew and have a read.WOW http://www.teapotone.com/site/general/from-dream-to-nightmare/
WOW indeed. Read this late last night and was totally captivated by his story, I really feel for the guy, they do say that Africa is the hardest continent to crack.... Maybe after a some rest and a bit of reflection he may start again somewhere else like Anchoridge Alaska and do the Americas, it would be a shame not to use all the hard work he has put in so far. Often once a long trip is done a week or two blating around Europe just doen't cut it for some. We all have our different likes/dislikes and levels and are so lucky that we can choose these. Bruce did a fantastic job, I hope he has learned a few things and uses this to move forward, not many could and would have done what he has. Well done Bruce !!
Wow! What a read. The story notwithstanding, it was beautifully written and captured the emotions wonderfully. It's a real shame he didn't complete the journey as I would have loved to have read any book he may have written about it. (I've read a few, like 'Triumph Around The World' and Sam Manicom's tomes but Bruce's writing beats those, for me) I must admit before reading that I did think 'why couldn't he have got through whatever bad bit he experienced and carried on?' but after reading all that I fully understand why he ended the trip when he did. Hopefully he'll get the chance to do it again one day.
I’m Off Again! » TeapotOne - 100,000 miles around the world for charity BREAKING NEWS.... just spoke to Bruce and now it's announced officially thought i'd let you know the trip is back on.... Fast Bikes will still feature the trip, he has had huge corporate backing this time which has allowed the trip to go ahead, Africa wont feature lol, and Bridgstone have given him more backing. He leaves on 9th May, and the 1st leg of the trip will be with us in Scotland.
Fantastic news that Bruce has got another crack at his dream. And Don't forget folks, get the home page saved, follow the adventure and give this bloke all the encouragement and support he deserves.
Thats great living the dream again will follow this and hopefully he has no major problems . Thats the day i leave for the scotland trip i will give him a wave if i see him heading south.
Let me explain myself i knew he was planning to do the scotland trip with us ,but when i saw this i presumed he would no longer be doing it,so no numpty award this time. Dont worry i am sure there we be plenty of times in scotland where i might be a worthy candidate for the numpty award.
I suppose he's got the urge to do it again, big time! Not only for charity, but for himself… totally understandable. Once bitten, forever smitten. Touring round other countries, whether for charity or not, instills something in you. I can't put my finger on it, but it really is something else. A sunday ride out in this country is never the same once you have been abroad on the bike.
You ain't met Bruce yet, think you have the bug dude, this guy had enthusiasm where you wouldn't think possible. Nobody I've ever met loves riding and touring as much as this dude, it's beyond obsession...
Just read through the whole thing. I followed the progress during the last jolly, and have made a comment on the link. Jimbo, I will pm you in a minute mate.
Amen, Si. Nicely put. I agree. When I'm on a rideout I realise I am going to end up where I started. On tour it's an adventure. Sleeping in a different town from where I started. Meeting new people. New scoff, languages, sights, smells...I LOVE IT! And if someone suggests that I'm touring on the wrong type of bike (and they do) I tell them it's mine, I love it and I can go where I like on it. Viva el Fireblade!
