Thanks Steve . Will have to see how it goes ,Honda should have a similar pedigree to say Rolls Royce relative to product however things like this can get out of hand and next minute you have a Toyota type of world wide brake recall which is not good for business.I bought a new Type R civic for 21k 2 years ago for my wife, after it had about 1800 miles on it ,just going to Asda and general knocking about the bonnet was hammered in stone chips and both sides low down so i went back to the Honda dealers to have a moan but they told me the old water based paint EU rules ect so i traded it in for a Citroen Ds3 and now with the same mileage, no chips and a far superior car, and a lot better customer service.
Just a post note on this ABS issue .Can we have some input from Stuart at Cox Honda please .I am thinking on the lines of a letter from Honda Uk to Cox explaining what is going on to settle some nerves on here.Stuart please respond thanks Mike.
I think its probably not fair to put Stuart in that position Giv. This is purely my opinion and I am not quoting anyone, but, I am sure all Honda dealers now about this but told to act dumb from high above. When I went through both the oil burning issue and ABS issue with my dealer, you would have thought I was the first ever to mention it and no one else had ever had a problem. Complete BS!
Agree but sometimes you have to step up to the plate and show that Cox Honda above all have our interest at heart if not please let us know either way is not a crime to talk.
Right chaps here we go!!! Blackpool honda did get back to me yesterday by dinner time and here is what they said! All 11plate bikes should have the revised ECU on them! Does your battery go flat my answer NO but its on a optimizer most of the time! Can you hear the abs pump running after taking key out NO! When its off with key out and you pull brake lever do you hear the power unit near headers clicking NO! Well them are the faults of the 09-10 abs bikes ecu you will find yours has the revised one on it! So i said how do you explain the lever going back to the bars! Air in the system its 2 separate faults according to them ie new ecu cures battery draining fault and air in brakes causes lever back to bars!! Now to be fair ive never had a flat battery ive also never heard pumps running etc..BUT i have had the lever back to bars basically i bought the bike and next day rode from blackpool to liverpool for the ferry to IOM when waiting to board on the slope engine off ignition on slight pressure on frt lever it comes back to bars and i shit myself roll forward panic release lever and re apply bingo its back and perfect!!! now a bit worried i think hmmmmmm! then the sales man happens to phone me while on boat hows the bike etc i run him though the list of PDI probs and the lever he says sorry to hear about pdi probs come and kick off once your back as for the lever ive never heard of it must of been cause it was not running i think Hmmmmmmm! Now i goto the man for a few days and its fine then once home 380 miles on bike i start up grading ie Brembo RCS master cyl and hell braided lines dot 5.1 and a flull bleed obv since then ive done a 1000 miles with no probs Anyway i am starting to belive them thats its air in brakes (lever) ecu (flat batt) Ive checked my ecu and surely enough its got the revised ecu part no!!! Here ya go chaps have a check! Part no: 38600MFLD02 2009 ecu with probs! Part no: 38600MFLD03 2010 ecu with probs! Part no: 38600MFLD04 2011 revised e.c.u!! Sorry for going out and been bad at writing but i am in a chatty mood haha
Hi bats. Where do I find the ecu for the abs unit mate. I'll check mine n see if it's got the revised unit.
Its under the seat cowl Just go in your luggage bit and its under the lock if you get me part no is on the top
Thanks. I'll give it a check at the weekend. Starting to worry a bit now. I changed the brake fluid in mine a couple of weeks ago and it took an age to bleed them again.
There a nightmare to bleed! did you bleed it from the 2 pipes above the front mudgaurd ie the front to rear splitter? if not then do so its a right little air trap
Nope never did that. I only bled it from the front calipers and the master cylinder. It feels fine now but I'll be taking it easy on first ride out. If it does get a bit soft I'll try that. Thanks again Bats.
Thanks Bats i also think a little steadying of nerves are needed here ,as some of the more lets say timid of folks may be concentrating on the brakes failing and not be watching whats going on around them . On the subject of Bleeding perhaps Arthur or another dude can give proper guidelines for bleeding brakes i thought you had to use a syringe somewere in the mix of things?
Thank you Rob for the information! I got a late 2011 Blade ABS and never had a problem, but I am riding all year , including when its cold. Also I charge the battery once in a while when I am not riding the bike. So, I will check the ECU part no and ask my dealer as well.
Thanks for ECU part no's bats Mine is going in tomorow been thinking/reading about it but I will post when I know more facts. Done a bit of systems testing in aerospace so trying to picture how the system works in my head found a few pics. 2009 Honda CBR600RR C ABS Power Units Photo 6
Checked out my ECU today = 38600MFLD04 so it ok. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread, my mind was at rest on my first ride out this year. Cheers guys and girls
