No worries man. I'll get it done before IOM. Don't want a fiasco like last august in Jedburgh with the chuckle brothers
Ok we think know why the ABS fault like came on my bike last week. Seems like it was just sticky/dirty calipers & pads from the winter salty crap on the roads. Cleared the fault and ridden a couple of times without it coming back all seems ok no strange noises etc. Suprised it through up a fault but it must have been enough to give a pressure difference from what the ecu was expecting to see at the manifold block? My brakes still worked after the ABS fault light came on although the pressure dipped a small amount probably due to the ABS motor moving the lead screw slightly when deactivating the ABS which moves the modulator piston. This was enough to make the lever go soft until you pumped it again. Scary the first time it happened! I have now cleaned up the calipers (was on my todo list anyway after winter) and have restored my confidence in the brakes now that I understand a bit more of how the system works. Fingers crossed thats all it is and it does not come back. Hopefully this help some who were getting worried about there ABS. This is seperate to the flat battery fault where the ECU is updated, I asked about this & the dealer read the bulletin but he needs to check it with Honda as the way it reads is that they will only replace it if you get the symptoms of the ABS motors whirring away when switched off etc I said I was worried that it is known by Honda to have the potential to run the battery flat & I do move the bike around alot on my driveway when its running. I don't want this issue happening when out of warranty. Although if it did happen out of warranty Honda has issued a bulletin and they might have to replace it anyway, but again I will check on this. Ongoing.
Just an update Re my contacting BPL Honda today. No worries they have ordered me one which should be here in the next couple of days. They then want it in for the day to fit it and check the electrical system is ok. So should have this little problem sorted before it got a chance to get started. If you know what I mean? Let you know how it goes. P.S. I ain't going to get a bill for this am I ?
I don't know how you will go about that Colin? Has yours actually flattened a battery? Or are you just looking at getting it done for peace of mind? Suely if it's a fault that it potentially left the Honda factory with it should be covered regardless? Sure someone here will know mate?
Just to update on the ECU replacement. My blade now has Part no: 38600MFLD04 2011 revised e.c.u fitted. Can't fault Blackpool Honda, they were straight on it with no quibble fitted it this afternoon whilst I sat drinking coffee and chatting shit. Thanks again guys for highlighting this problem and thanks Bats for the heads up on this whilst I was out of the country. BTW. Did anyone who has took their Blade in to have this fitted actually had the bottle to look at the invoice. Bloody hell. I went all light headed
Just found this thread after my 2009 C-ABS Fireblade drained a full battery after returning from a ride out on it on Saturday. Just checked my ECU serial number and it is one of the ones that could be affected by this issue. Got a new battery on order just in case, but should I contact my local Honda dealer about this problem - and are they obliged to do anything about it if my bike is out of warranty?
Its a case by case basis. Its not a safety related issue, its an annoying design issue not found during initial pre production testing. Mine was changed by Honda goodwill this year, out of warranty (10 plate), but it has a full Honda service history and a good supplying dealer.
