The blade cost me around £800 this year with IAM Surety. I'm covered for 12k miles a year, pillion, SDPC and class 1 business use, breakdown, overseas cover, Yoshi declared. I've had my license 3 years, only 2 years bike NCB (thanks to having to switch insurance twice mid-term in the past), 7years NCB on car, clean license, IAM test pass / an Observer with the IAM, 28 years old, garaged at a low risk home address. I think I deserve a better quote personally! I always extensively shop around though. To be fair MCE would have covered me for around 700 but NEVER will i go with those tw@ts again!! long story, but mid term adjustments and bending me over spring to mind! Still, quite a lot to pay - it never seems to come down?! With the Panigale being worth over twice the value I'm hardly surprised the insurance is a lot more expensive. Just a shame as I'd be all over it otherwise! Sam
When I was the 28 I got my first blade, six points speeding and wheelie,(i was young) full ncb No other advanced test, fully comp cover cost me 350. Is an area thing I think.my rate now is still 350 a year.
I've found the same; be it car or bike, that insurance prices just seem to increase every year and negates any discount from NCB. It sucks! Just put a quote through compare the market and incidentally MCE (my favourite...) have come back with a quote of £834 on the Panigale S...
That is not a bad price for a £20 asset that is so easy to write off, steal etc. Remember it will loose over £2K when you ride it from dealers so insurance at around 850 sounds fair.
Jonny, what about the one bike which hits a 3rd party and causes hundreds of thousands of claims of injuries to people in the other car. I used to print the cheques so know a little about this stuff!
I deleted the post because my maths was rubbish. It is 4% which sounds no where near as bad lol. I agree in essence with what you say, but the MUCH bigger part of the problem is people fiddling the system. That applies to all vehicles and not just bikes. A car can do much more damage. The point is travelling on the road is a risky business. That is why we all have insurance. But back to the point in hand, a 20 year old FJ1200 travelling at 120 will do more damage than a Panigale at 120mph due to the weight, so the whole extra is entirely down to the bike itself. The FJ would probably cost about 100 quid to insure and this isn't calculated into the personal injury claims model you put forward.
checked a quote there, fully comp would cost me £633 with bikesure and 641 with mce oh and that was with adding a claim for bike damage worth £5k two years ago.
It's happening... Deposit going down on a 2013 Panigale S in white A very nice HRC 2012 blade will be up for sale as of this evening... Sam
Welcome to my world..............what can I say, I love mine, the heat issue has also been solved with the 2013 exhaust cowl, which although I am not that keen on, it does it's job really when compared to the demo bike I borrowed and I am just waiting for someone to produce a carbon one. I loved each and everyone of my blades but they are boring in comparison, we only have one go on this planet, if you want it......have it, your a long time time dead mate.
Have had 3 blades, loved them all, but the most fun had on a bike is with my sp2 & before the bitching starts iv'e had a 996 which was fantastic but the sp2 beets them all.
The Blade is now up on eBay classifieds... Sad times, but in a few weeks I'll be somewhat happier Sam
Cracking advert. 2012 bike with 19000 miles? Thats some going there! With your high mileage do the running costs of a Panigale not scare you? PICS when she comes!!
Mate, it'll be pics galore!! I'm already thinking about where I'm going to take them! Glad you like the advert - I spent ages on it as I feel a good advert helps massively and shows the amount of passion I have for keeping my bike in tip top condition. What can I say? I like to ride!! It soon adds up the old mileage I tell ya! The Panigale was quite juicy when I test rode it; drinking £12 in three hours of playing... Doesn't really bother me too much as I ride for fun Sam
no belts on the panigale so no more exspensive than a blade run, thats why I am looking at them too for next year.
