For 10 days you don't need much, especially if it is hot. I would normally take 3 pair of smalls, wear one, wash one, dry one. Synthetic riding gear which dries over night so only need one set. One tee and one polo and some light weight trousers. If you need layers at night use your riding mid layer stuff. Pair of sandels that pack small and are light. Only take enough toiletries for 10 days in a zip lock bag. If you fill 50 lts you have TOO much stuff for 10 days. Just my 2pc
I don't disagree mate, my polite point being to the thread owner being it's more than enough with oil included. Did I give the impression I struggled to take everything?
Thanks for all the input. Going to do some trial packing and see where I'm at. Don't fancy washing stuff tbh so will avoidnif at all possible. Lightweight walking trousers sound a good idea.
Haven't done any touring but even when I go on holiday I often take less clothes and a tube of travel wash. 90% of the time you end up favouring 3 or 4 items out of your suitcase anyway. You're not talking about the full cycle. Just a poss out in the sink. Saves you taking a squillion pairs of smalls and socks. This sort of stuff. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Beckman-Travel-Wash/dp/B0037S0XZE
^^^^ totally agree. Sink for 30 secs, slap on balcony, Job done.... Also keeps all your other clothes fresh as they are not sharing a bag with 9 day old sweaty t shirts
Take all your old pants/socks/t shirts, wear them and throw em at the end of the day. I have done a couple of 1600 mile + trips on my rr9 in the last year, oil useage minimal. DONT FORGET TO TAKE A SPARE KEY. Have fun and enjoy.
^^^ or the old primark trick, wear in eve, ride next day in, wash bike morning after and throw away! Lol Seen many a lad do that. I just can't be arsed with the cleaning bit lol
Slight change of subject from oil consumption to oil level checking. Is there a reason why the procedure states start the engine let it idle for a few minutes, shut it down wait five minutes and the check ? Surely you can just check in the garage before going on a ride with the engine cold. Is there a reason the engine has to be warm ? Will there be a noticeable difference in level if checked when engine cold compared to when the engine is warm ?
Suppose the correct way to check is with some of the oil in the filter and engine components, if it was left for a month the level would rise due to the extreme drain. I don't think you need to worry if it was that critical we would all have broken engines. Mike.
I've made funnels from printer paper and newspapers before now. Doesn't need to be waterproof for too long.
If you are worried this works well - Have to thank Craig at Calsport for supplying this - I told him I was heading to the Pyrenees and it was using a bit of oil, he knew of Blade engines failing with low oil so said 'just to be safe take this, I'm not sure your 500ml will be enough' - that got me to South of France, in the week and 3,000 miles it used 3.5 litres of oil Think the Fuchs / Silkoline bottles have the long nozzle - I have used a load of oil in my bike over the years and mates each got me a bottle of oil as a joke for a birthday one year so ended up with quite a selection.
That's quite heavy oil useage, 3.5 litres in 3000 miles. As far as I'm aware Honda quoted the upper limit as 1 litre per 1000 miles which looks like your just over.
That's good to hear. How many miles have you done since the warranty work ? Completely cured or just improved ?
about 70k since the warranty work I think - much improved, but not perfect - although I have had to have a replacement engine fitted this year (not for oil use / level or even wear and tear related reasons)
It never left me stranded in almost 80k, lots replaced but only really wear and tear. Horn switch was only notable failure I think in spain where it stuck on for zero reason one hot day
