That is a good example for sure and at that price you won't go wrong really. How much will he do WOWs for? As for the rear shock, keep eyes peeled over the winter and something will appear for sure.
I am very tempted by the 600rr in dublin, purely for the spec. If I sold all that in bits like the snigger I'd be a millionaire!!!
It does have a mega spec for sure. It would be worth buying and breaking that one. It has had a huge amount spent on it. Just think how much an engine refresh would cost though??!!!!
Very true! Argh! I'm not splitting from my cash until the right bike comes along, keeping my eyes wide open on ebay/tdr/motoforum tho! Just don't think these ones are the "right one" as it were..
Don't rush into it. The first R6 I had (06 model) was great, but it didn't have upgraded suspension, exhaust system, steering damper etc. I found I was pushing the bike too hard on the stock rear shock and this is partly to blame for my two offs this year. Yamaha pays about £35 for the rear shock, so it ain't up to much. The right bike will appear. just don't rush. I shall keep my eyes and ears peeled.
Like robin said mate don't rush it, the right one will come along and the longer it takes the more extra cash you will find
There is a guy who has messaged me on motoforum selling this: The spec: This is a 2004 model 5sl, but registered with Yamaha in 2005 (I spoke to Yamaha UK prior to buying the bike) with just 6,000 miles on the clock All frame and engine numbers present - any check welcome I contacted DVLA also who confirmed that the V5 could be applied for and I do have all the paperwork to make this happen. I can assure you, there is not a cleaner bike out there, with this spec for the money/ The only marks that I have come across when I have cleaned the bike is a sligh scuff on the back of the swing arm and some VERY light marks/stone chips. I do have the following spares with the bike but are not included in the asking price. They will be offered at a substanitally reduced rate for the proposed new owner to have first refusal on: A complete set of wheels with discs, including sprocket carrier and a brand spanking new renthal rear sprocket and a brand spanking new rear interact k2 and a scrub front K1 tyre A very good set of loose Pirelli wets A scrub front K1 Racetech interact tyre A complete set of lightech paddock stands (the ones that sponsor tech 3 moto gp team!!) very trick looking indeed!! Haynes Manual A brand new set (used for 1 day only at Donington) set of the latest Bike tech tyre warmers with the built in thermostat
Why not? Seems well setup for it! Would I wanna replace for USD forks tho? Which ones would I have to buy for it? Would 06 USDs fit straight on?
Just looking at things like the bodywork and wheels. If you bin it, they are both silly expensive to replace. The bike itself will be capable. I have a good mate who races one of these and it is super quick. Very different from the 06 onwards, but still a good capable bike. I personally would go for an 06 onwards though, that is set up for racing, rather than being blinged up. Were it me, I think I would feel nervous about a bike with this level of trick stuff on. Both Mike and I have gone through a wheel each this year, I have gone through 2 sets of bodywork, so I would say that cheaper stuff is better.
So in terms of an 06> R6 mate what would you say I need to look for? I was thinking steering damper, upgraded suspension, brakes? (dunno how these are as standard), adjustable rearsets, aftermarket system with insert and PC, quickshifter I can live without for now. Definitely WOWs. Budget is still gonna be around 3.5K What's your thoughts? How much was your setup?
I would stick to your original plan and look for an 06 onwards, more spares available and they are still used. I would say that you should look for a bike that has: WOWs, upgraded suspension, steering damper. Most bikes will have rearsets fitted, so that isn't a worry. Don't worry too much about the exhaust, there is a guy called Mark Hill who owns MHP exhausts and will convert a standard system to a de-cat race version for not a lot of cash, probably about £250 for a full system. MHP Exhaust I have got one of his systems on my 06 bike and it is spot on. Plus he works wonders with repairs, so a good contact to have in the folder. A PC would be useful if you are going to have the aftermarket exhaust system, but you would again benefit from having it set up on a dyno. I see no reason why you shouldn't get a good bike for £3500, it just may take a few weeks to find it. As for my set up, I hate to think what it has cost. My 06 bike I will probably sell for about £2995, but it does need suspension, as it has stock stuff on, but tuned for my weight. Great bike though.
I know how ya feel YT! It doesn't get any easier to hold on to 'spare cash' when you get older, especially where bikes are concerned! Think I'd be divorced by now if the Wifey knew how much I really "Piss away" (to use her words) on my hobby!
I know this isn't what you're looking for, but i can't help posting the link as it's a fecking steal! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171150307006?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Buy it Tyke! I love mine that I use for the track! Handles far better than my 08 although it does have Ohlins and upgraded forks on it.
a steal? you are joking, with all that damage, plus whats unknown? wouldn't even get 2200 in parts for that.
