Yep, it must be some spectacle that!! Def want to go, but do think there are down sides also I.e expense, lack of bike time! Which you don't suffer with on a euro or uk tour!
I've never been, but I'm thinking about going this year. It's always around Le Mans time and that has taken priority, however I really do think it's time to make the trip to the TT ... Q: What's the overall theft problem like ? Obviously it could be a thief's paradise armed with a white van and some muscle ...
To be honest. Never hear much theft. You see bikes with the keys in ignition on prom. Unless there is a ring that steal bikes on there and strip them down? But I think it's one of the safest places to leave a bike. It's the isles only real source of industry and they all work very hard to keep it and its visitors safe.
50000 bikers in one place, do you honestly think if anybody saw somebody thieving, that person would live to sell the parts?
Ideal place to do it then mate!? You wouldn't think twice if the said theif was in leathers and "fiddling with his bike - cos he's lost his keys etc" Ultimate smoke screen?? And they are very good and forward at what they do... Not that I know what theft is like on the island... Just an observation on your theory ; )
they dont need to rob owt, just sit on the mountain during open roads and wait for someone to fall off (happens pretty regularly) take your pick of whats left of bikes.
Last year, I dropped my bike off at the ferry terminal on the isle of man the day before I was sailing as it was a 6am sail, all geared up with 2 kriega bags full of stuff on the rear, house keys under the rear seat, sat Nav unit and a full tank of petrol. It was there when I arrived at 5.30 am untouched. The isle of man is safe as houses, and if it does get touched, it won't me a Manx man or woman, it will be someone who lives in burnley. Dont worry about theft, I was staying with a mate for the 5 days who's lived on the island for nearly 30 years, and he's never heard of a theft during the TT, or anytime. A spark plug went missing from an old transit 2 years ago though....
Ask me?? ive only been once 2 tips the place is fooking great! the ferry is my barf boat 4 hours in a bog hurling lol
You had it bad man. But at least you wasn't on your own in the bogs. Defo do it again though. Just hope it's a bit calmer on the return for you
I've been quite a few years with and without the bike. And loved both times. Moto gp, wsb, bsb are brilliant to watch but there's something about a superbike heading down bray hill first lap, first time you see them with the throttle wide open doing silly speeds. I also think its amazing that they race those bikes at those speeds on those roads for nearly 1hour 45 min. Atmosphere is fantastic and riding the mountain when its one way and no speed limit and also quite fun
Hey guys I'm a 1st timer for the TT's this year also, going for the extreme option due to late ferry booking by the looks of it, 3rd to the 13th only time I could get to come home. Going to camp the 10days and also take the bike, this will also be a 1st. Does anyone know of any good camp sites for tents was looking at going to Ballamoar Manx TT campsite.. Hoping I can change the dates round a little to get home on 10th.. Is there still a Crazy Sunday? if so I may be over just in time..
Zero theft happens, the atmosphere is all positive, the locals are great, fellow bikers help each other if they need anything, one bloke fell over doing a slow u turn last year and about 20 people ran to help him, he had a fucking goldwing so we needed em. Last year there was a story in a manx newspaper that someone had stolen a pot plant from someones front garden... THAT made the papers! Got to love the place
last year was my 1st visit you cannot believe someone can hold a throttle pinned for that amount of time, you can hear the bikes 2 miles before they reach you and several miles after.
