Shame you didn't get one of the Dog on the track! As always Barney great photos and it was good to catch up with Steve aka fire bloke , Andy ,Gary and yourself . Big Thanks to Steve(fire bloke) who is always happy to spend time giving me tips to improve my track riding which each track day I do I feel like I learn that little bit more . Got my suspension yet up at last but was unable to test it as our last session was cancelled due to a crash then a BLOODY DOG on the track .
Excellent pictures again Barney! Well, what a great "free trackday" that was. Turned up at 6.45am with Garyb, my Michelin Power Supersport shod 05 blade in the back of the van. Bit chilly at that time in the morning but never mind I've got my brand new Uber tyrewarmers from Demon Tweeks to help me along. ..........no chance! couldn't get near a garage for the power due to so many race lads invading the paddock the night before! Oh well, I set my tyre pressures to 30 front and 28 rear and off I go in the first session. Whoa!! Don't like these tyres at all! They feel squidgy and the bike is really moving around on them, as confirmed by And7rp2 who was behind me at that point. As part of the trackday we have full use of technical support and tyre specialists so I take my bike in and get it fettled. The tyre guy drops the rear down to 24 and on the next session I completely gel with the Michelins. Got much more heat into them and no squirming. These tyres will actually drop down to 22 and give you 30 % more tyre life than their rivals so yes, I would definitely recommend the tyres even after a shaky start. Met James, very nice guy, who was the national marketing director for Michelin and was very interested in our forum. Gave him a few details ie. the forum title and our leader's name.......Kenneth and also our plans for the trip to Scotland. I'm sure we'll be hearing from him again. Once again we were extremely lucky with the weather, not a drop of rain and about 13 degrees in the afternoon. Great to see the forum members again and much praise for Jason who came on leaps and bounds during the day. He even came in with smaller chicken strips than myself but only on the first session mind while I was having problems with the rear. Shame he didn't get to test his new suspension set up in the last session due to it being cancelled. Thanks to Barney and Gary for their support and taking great pics, Andy for providing me with some thoroughly enthralling "racing" around the circuit and a massive thanks to Tony at SHORROCKS MOTORCYCLES PRESTON for making the day possible and being a nice bloke to boot. Can't recommend SHORROCKS enough for their help and advice and always willing to give a bit of discount on what are already good prices............There, I can step down off my soapbox now!
Someone pointed out my tread pattern Is pointing a different way to steves and Andy . Will someone have a look at the 3 photos and tell me does it matter ?
You could be right there Mike ,that's why they were faster well that explains it I thought I saw them pointing at my tyre and laughing. It wouldn't make much difference for Steve as his front wheel was in the air most of the sessions .
Sounds a good day out Was it open pit lane or was there 3 groups Novice/Intermediate/Fast? Thinking of maybe doing one of the other Michelin track days but only done one before, so would want to be in novice class.
there were 4 groups, take a look here, its easier than me typing http://www.hottrax-motorsport.co.uk/Oulton2013/Oulton2013TestSchedule.pdf
Yes Ian, they were. I was only spectating and getting a feel for the job :edit: To add Ian. That meant all were in the same group, the novice, intermediate and fast lads. Which did cause one or two issues by all accounts. Wouldn't treat a Michalin event as a full blown trackday more an event. Don't get me wrong they loved it, but, with such a mixed variety toy could quite easily get hung up around the circuit.
Tony from SHORROCKS rang me yesterday for some feedback on the trackday which was all good after a slightly shaky start. He also told me he had more offers in the pipeline but with a European feel to them!!! Happy days!! I'll post any offers he might come up with and hopefully we can make it a Blade event.
If you check your front wheel/tyre there will be an arrow on the sidewall of the tyre and also on the spokes of the wheel to show which way it should rotate
