Can't wait to get some track tyres like BSB's fitted and give it another shot!! Let's see what the repair bill is going to be (garage looking at it this morning) and how good payday is this month.....
The scary tree was in the shot for ages I always look at the tree it has changed in location now well track has from 200 to the 300 Both cracking tracks though miss the old snett Glad your ok
You lost the front on that crash, nothing to do with the back or dropping into second gear from what I can see. You are entering a second gear corner so that's the correct gear to be in where you were on track. You can see in the vid your still going in a straight line and as you grab too much front brake, it locks and then slams to the floor. If the back wheel had locked, even at 80 in second you'd only have felt a small wobble if that. Glad to hear you're ok though.
Mate I'm afraid you are wrong there! Working at the BBC has it's advantages and the guys slowed the footage right down and i'm actually not on the brakes when it goes. You can see the forks lift before the crash which prove that I'm not loading any pressure on them and that it happens on the gear change. Might be worth reading my description again - I'm already in 2nd as I have accidentally knocked in down a gear shifting position in my seat so it's 1st gear at 80 I select with a bag loads of revs from blipping the throttle so I am literally popping a burnout. Without the blip there may have been a wobble but blipping the down change sealed my fate...... The bike was also found in 1st gear and the way it went down if anything it would have knocked it up a gear not down
I've watched the footage again and it shows the back break and come round and not the front go at all. It's frustrating but I've had this discussion countless times since the time but the slow mo footage really explains it and also that I've got no front load on forks as I'm preparing to coast in behind the Aprilia through the hairpin...
Fair enough, it's just I've never seen a rear lock up cause the front to go down like it does. Certainly an odd one. But you were the pilot, so who am I to argue!
Mate I did exactly what you are describing on my RR7 and know full well that is usually how you go down in that situation. This time felt very different as you know when your braking hard and the front end goes as you lose your steering instantly but didn't get any of that. Ignore my hurt emotions anyways everyone has a right to an opinion ;p
Gutted for you Navvy, looked as though the day was going really well until the spill. Hope you get the bike sorted quickly and are back out.
Yeah was last session of the day so had an awesome time and even rode her home albeit with some duct tape and a top up of coolant
I've started running slicks now and the amount of trail braking you can do into a corner is unreal, and coupled with the Sigma slipper I put in over winter it's completely changed the bike and how it enters the corner. I'm going to Snett on the 7th May to get a bit of track time and adjust a few things in readyness for my next race.
Sorry to hear about your off mate, glad your Ok, albeit a bit bruised. Bike sounds as though it will fix up easy enough and you did have an excellent fast lap
Enjoyed the vid Navvy until the end .I think this is the biggest risk of all when you have your pride and joy and you Track it .An old standard blade you can just about live with but something new ish and with'' goodies attached''then the percentages change out of favor (Only if you come a cropper'') but of course there is the similar risk on the road! Hope you get it mended asap and good luck on your next venture out.
I'll tell you in two weeks! When I raced there last year, it was the first round and the bike was bog standard bar the fairing. No gadgets or gizmos on it at all and I hadn't even touched the suspension either (not even a twiddle!) I'm really hoping to dip under two minutes when we race there later in the year, I doubt I'll get a clear enough track on a track do to even attempt it, but it's all about setup this time out.
What about one of the open pit lane days like what no Limits do? Not many each year but you won't be trafficked, usually BSB teams and club racers use them as testing days. Would love to get anywhere near 2min laps that is cooking on gas mate!
Yeah, open pits is good, used to do a few of those. You still get loads of traffic, and mixed ability. Once I get a good setup I think I'll be able to do it, I was around 2:05 last year when it was standard, so as long as I can get a good setup I'm quite optimistic I can get down to 2m or just under.
What rubber are you using? Slicks probably? I would like to crack 2:10 but I'd probably have to stick myself in fast group to not have the traffic and that feels like a big jump!
This year I'm out on Dunlop slicks, but last year was racetec's. The faster you get, the harder it is to take off big chunks of time. I know it's going to be tough to find just a few seconds, which is why setup is now so important. The key is to be smooth
