My mechanic puts that on my chain whenever it's in ....did used to mess the orange rear wheel up though, although I can't see the muck on these black ones they're great lol no need to clean em at all
Oil is better than wax , it penetrates and cleans . Wax sits there colectin road grime . I dip a paint brush in a bottle of gear oil and hold it on the inside of the chain while turning the wheel by hand , about 4 dips of the brush .then wipe off .I do this About every 300 miles , 12,000 miles to date and loads of life left and looks like New. plus I get my gear oil free from work 80/90 gear oil is mentioned in the handbook for chain lube
I don’t lube my chain. I just spray WD40 on a rag (Not directly on the chain) I then clean the chain. It has worked for me for many years. When I used to do higher mileage I used to use Castrol Chain Wax. It was awesome stuff. Please note, take heed of the other posters on this topic. I walk more miles in a month than my bike gets ridden in a year.
Now i am really confused i used to use wax and have gone for lube now but fling is an issue, i used to clean my chain with a brush and petrol to get all the old gunk off but WD40 sounds like a plan for cleaning. will give Wurth a go as it seems to be a popular choice. Pete
Bloody kerosene. Didn't know we can still buy it! Back in the 60s, my oldies had a couple of kerosene heaters, the type with the wick that flames up to a wired cylinder that then radiates heat acros about 2 friggin' metres!! Used to stink the damn house out when first lit!!
My BIL gave me 2 tins of that Wurth wax and when the MT10 went in for it's first service my mechanic said 'it's ok mate, I gave the chain a good coat of lube as it looked dry"! TBH I used to use Motul C4 or Yamalube but discovered WD40 Chain lube which is brilliant. I may give the Wurth stuff a miss, I prefer to see the chain has been lubed.
I've always just plastered my chain with lube but recently I've found if you only apply it to the side plates on the inside of the chain run the centrifugal force sends it through the chain plates and you end up with very little fling. The Wurth dry wax stuff just looks like theres nothing on there.
Yeah that's what my mechanic says about the Wurth dry lube I put on....we have the same groundhog conversation every time.. Your chain was dry...you need to lube it! I've put some gear oil on I do...its Wurth lube... Well it doesn't look like you do ... (wanders off muttering bloody women should stick to cooking)
I tried the Wurth but it wasn’t very good at dealing with winter - had better luck with Motul Factory Line as it’s a bit thicker. You do get some fling, although that could also be a result of the way I apply it.
