the makers say its 100% safe for chains and bearing cleaning.I use it and the muc-off stuff to clean my chains and have never had any problems.
WD40 is one of my favourite smells in the world I sometimes use it for cleaning the bike but I've heard it that it dries out the o-rings on a bike chain, shrinks them and allows the internal chain grease to escape.
I had heard that too but the makers say this is a myth. I have gt85, basically the same stuff and it says to use it on chains and bearings.I got it free with my new mountain bike.
I know there's Teflon in GT85 but I don't think I'd rely on it for anything but light duties as a lubricant. To induce decent slippage, yes, but not as a lube. Soak a cloth in it then run the iron over it and it makes it a lot easier to do the pleats on your frocks.
I use and only use GT85 on everything I service and clean mechanically.Use it at home and work. The reason I use GT85 is that it has ptfe in it that stops rust developing by giving whatever you spray on a light coat of ptfe.I use it at home cleaning blade, guns and car.Work I use it for servicing cars, pushbikes even the counter.WD40 is American GT85 is made in UK by GT85 ltd in Guildford.I find GT85 lasts a lot longer at keeping rust at bay than WD40 and goes further.Wd40 is donkeys years old although good but not as good as the new stuff out there today.
Wd 40 cleaned my wheels a treat an belly panel today that chain wax is a load of crap its gets everywhere plus brack dust.
