Don't really wanna get involved in this as I it usually turns into a slagging session with the BIB being the outright losers. Every force area has it's own policing issues which are driven by the wants of the community and crime levels hence I don't ride in Wales. Each situation has so many variables it's impossible to say how or what the outcome will be! Traffic officers will generally do more of the ticket giving as it's more their area. Bike meets will obviously be targeted, most average Joe BIB won't have a clue about bikes, I had to pull over not to long ago and point out to one of my "colleagues" that the bollocking she was giving out to the lad on the quad for wearing no helmet was not just as he didn't have to wear one, very embarrassing for all concerned!!! Anyway your attitude has a massive part to play but not always as you just get some one track minded officers. Wearing the correct kit etc helps, but the answer for me is, I'm sick of all the crap of being a road rider so track only for me from now on!!!
Iv never had trouble from the police on my bikes , touch wood . Never been pulled once in 7 years on the road . Iv filtered through traffic passed police cars with small plates . even with my bike 3 months out of tax before and never been pulled . There is a time and a place for everything and if you use your head i think they don't bother pulling you over . We are not like cars where people have no insurance , non road worthy car etc . Its a safe bet to say a guy on a 10 grand bike with 2 grands worth of leathers and helmet etc has insurance and is mostly legal there aint much point in pulling him unless riding like a twat through a 30 mph built up area but then its the riders fault and deserved to . I keep the fun riding for the roads i know well and the ones that are out of the way of people and iv never been pulled so must be doing something right ??
Agree with Benn that the track is perhaps the way forward ,but for me doing Monday /Friday hours and not being able just to drop a day then it is out of reach for me . Part two of this would be the cost ie Van /Trailer/ The travel to other tracks/ The £150.00 a time even if it rains/Tyres/ all the goodies like tyre warmers bla bla ,also i quite like the roads as you can wander were you like and meet up with mates you can have a bit of sport and all for a tank of juice .So if i won the Lotto it would be track every time inc visits to spain but for now its the roads and looking forward to a long hot summer.
Small no. plates, riding like a twat, speeding in bult up areas (especially with a noisy can). These 3 can just about gaurantee you a pull up here from the white hat brigade
Got to agree with you and that's pretty much just like me. Just thought it was a good idea to find out if there was anything else our local plod was looking at other than the normal staff regarding bikes
I think Remals answer has been found. Some good points made too, Benn big respect, I agree it does turn to a slagging match and that ain't no good for know one. I'm with Givover Lotto win and the only time you would see me on the road is taking my bike to a track As I see it in a nut shell? Depending on what the circumstances of being pulled over are Is depending on what the BIB are going to be looking for on your bike. Attitude is key get snotty? And you will find yourself on the losing end, personally I only ever got one pull for an exhaust, the traffic guy nice and polite chat between us and was happy to send me on the way with a get that changed mate, one of the lads who was with us started gobing off, the usual persecution shite etc very good said traffic cop, your very very defensive, have you something to hide? Better let the nice man from VOSA take a look just to make sure. To sum up, the officer said to work on the principle of The more you whinge the more they look for stuff I'll also add a thought? Do you think your more likely to get a tug riding as a group? Or as a single rider. Have a funny story about that for another time
loud pipes, small plates, speeding/riding like a knob and knee downs. Thats what pisses plod off, oh, and wheelies. They HATE wheelies.
A lad up my way was taken to court for pulling a wheelie, Albeit, he was on the main street going through one of the local towns on a sat afternoon.. Fast track to wrist slapping!
Im bored of road riding now and its only as a necessity for me to get to work. The constant frustration of wanting to open it up, coupled with the anxiety of getting pulled of you actually do it is too much now. Lets face it, you can easily do 70mph in 1st gear on a blade so its just a waste. Now... where's that c90 i saw advertised.. You dont have to get fully 'tracked' up with trailers etc. if you keep your bike legal(ish!). Oh, and London just seems to have its own road rules!
Oh, and London just seems to have its own road rules! hey zee, seen your video blogs, i think you wrote most of the rules !
I just ride the way I want/need to ride to stay as safe as I can whilst still enjoying myself. If the police don't like it, they can go ahead and do what they need to do. Out and about, I see quite a lot of other bikers who I would probably pull if I was a police officer - this gives me some comfort IME, police "policy" on bikes is totally random and can't really be predicted!
