Got bored today so decided to strip the fairings off the bike (never done it before to a blade) and give the girl a good pre-season once over. Will do an oil and filter change, check the air filter and fit the radiator cover while I'm at it. Hopefully I can remember where and how everything fits back together!
How'd you find getting the fairings off for first time? I will be doing that myself in a few weeks for spring clean!
Gave it a damn good scrub up ... Fitted some fork protectors as well along with the hugger ... HEL lines and Ti bolts next along with a full strip and clean ready for summer ... Suspect pillion peg removal on the horizon too!
I'm a professional Detailer so have a vast array ... But for the bike I use: SDOC cleaner gel (for heavy dirt) PH Neutral snow foam for general cleaning ACF50 for protection of metal GTechniq C2 for paintwork and wheels
All the bikes are starting to look good lads, let's hope for a good season, I'm awaiting my carbon Dan moto GP silencer and my 2013 forks, then the challenge of fitting them
A bit confusing at first, since you have to take off various bits that you wouldn't think were attached to the side fairings (the front air intake and air tubes for instance), and loads of those pesky pop-clips to contend with. But take it steady, and it all comes off relatively easily. I used this guide, which was very useful: Middle Cowl, Removal/Installation - CBR1000RR8 DIY Good Luck! I see you will be tackling the rear peg removal too. That's also on my list if the front half goes well
Did 80 miles round high Peak from 11:00 today. Was ok in sunshine but chilly in cloud. Went over Snake pass to Ladybower Inn, then over to Buxton and home via Cat and Fiddle.
Peeled the cover off Looked at the bike. Looked outside. Put the cover back on. Hurry up rain and get rid of all this salt up here!
