Put my gear on, threw my leg over her and rode her. Makes all that tinkering and ££ well worth it. First time out with Healtech gear indicator. I like it.
Took delivery yesterday of some new Asv levers (just fitted) and also some rizoma action led indicators (not fitted) trying to figure out how to drop the nose fairing to change the flasher relay Oh and new Renthal front and rear sprockets along with did black n gold, same old shit I know but tarts things up a bit, got to treat the old girl while she's stuck in the garage. Missus says spend any more money on her then I'll be sleeping with her to

I decided to make my rider seats more comfortable and recover them. The first one I did was my 600f then the 1000rr. I am a complete amateur when it comes to this sort of thing but with the aid of a few simple tools one of which anyone can make at home... a metal jar lid with nail holes in it I set to work. So noticed the brakes have gone off a bit recently so thought would whip the calipers off and have a look... Urgh :/ Pads are shot as well ... Brembo pads ... Done barely 8k miles! Plenty of elbow grease sorted the calipers ... Anyone know why the pads are wearing unevenly?
Are your discs floating free on the pins? For how spotless your bike is, I'd be surprised if they were seized, could have just been the action of the crud restricting your pistons, fluid power always takes the easiest route. My pistons weren't much worse than yours, but I was surprised how much muck has accumulated around the dust seals.. Although I'd not recommend stripping the calipers without you absolutely have to..
Discs are spotless ... Bobbins are washed every week as part of maintenance. The Pistons were also free and easily moved with fingers ... Cleaned them up properly anyway. I'm wondering if it's seating of the front wheel / forks but I followed the manual to the letter on that.
Seems a bit odd. My pistons were stiff, to the extent i had to pull half of them out with circlip pliers, but my pads were even.. Worth a switch back to oem pads? Suppose it wouldn't be a daft idea reinstalling the front axle while you've got the brakes off, but they've not worn all that lot off since you swapped the forks have they..
I strip and clean the calipers properly every 2-3 months simply because I can't be arsed with seized Pistons ... A thin smear of rubber grease really helps keep them in good nick btw before you push them fully home. I'm not sure the pad type will make any difference. They are brembo pads. TBH I didn't check the calipers when doing the fork swap... So no idea. The pads have done 8,000 miles and two track days so are wearing ok ... Going to check alignment first.
Hah.. don't think my bike had been touched before i bought it, so I'm hopeful the work I've done has avoided future problems. And there was plenty of red rubber grease applied in reassembly, dust seals and exposed parts of pistons.. Still seems odd yours has done that.. I've stuck with oem pads at present, local track prep boys seem to rate them, although I cant imagine there's much in it price-wise between them and brembo. Have you noticed any improvement? You putting any thread locker on caliper bolts if you're removing that frequently or just torquing up?
The brembo pads are superb ... Provide more bite and feel, yet are superb when pushing on... No thread lock ... Just torque up.
I've used low strength loctite to be safe.. but i'll bear the brembos in mind in future. Best of luck sorting it out dude.
That job is spot on! What did you use to clean the calipers mate, i.e external body and pistons? Brake cleaner or something different?
Is that the one that is on offer on EBay for £230, bargain for that price. Leo Vinci normally sound good.
