Suggestions...... In my pursuit for perfection it has come back and bit me on the ass. A couple of weeks ago I got both tyres changed, serviced with all fluids changed plus MOT. In order to remove the sticky clue residue left by the previous wheel balance weight (on the front wheel), dick head here decided to use petrol. During my vigorous rubbing motion it removed some paint down to the primer. As you can imagine I was gutted. In the grand scheme of things it is nothing really and I touched it up a bit with black gloss paint from Halfords, but it is enough to annoy me. Since then someone said the best way to remove it is use your thumb rubbing in the same direction and it will eventually come off. Do I.. 1, New wheel fitted £808. 2, Powder coated (not sure on price and will it be as good as the original Honda paint) 3, Leave it
Hi there, dessp2. It seems we might share the same pedantic trait. Given the costs, I would make sure the Halford's paint touch up job is the best it can be - even if it means rubbing back and re-doing. A new wheel is out of the question, unless @vic_ster51 might offer a special deal. The powder coat option is meritable. There are many who have had good results with colour changes. However, you run the risk of the black being different than the rear wheel. (Sure, I know 'black is black' but in certain light a difference might be evident.) Unfortunately, we do have to 'live with things' that annoy us. Fact is, only we will know about them, but it's aggravating just the same. I have a couple of loose well nuts on a screen. Doesn't cause damage and no one knows about - BUT I DO! Therein lies the problem with our fastidious nature. Those who don't wash their bikes all winter simply will not understand us.
Could you get in touch with one of the mobile wheel refurb firms....get them to at least offer their opinion/advice? ...might be the best, cheapest option?
Nigel and Hitch I thank you for your response. Luckily it is on the left side of the wheel so when the bike is parked on its side stand even I struggle to see it. The touch up job by me was at best ok. I might just part ex my bike lol. My bike ‘book price’ I have been offered is £6300 in a part ex for a new one. They can do one if they think my bike with 1085 miles on the clock and in conveyer belt condition is worth that.

Take the wheel to a car sprayer as they have a machine that will tell you the exact colour code. Then get a touch up stick to match.
Interesting you mention that. Just last week I took a carbon pillion seat replacement to a local auto spray shop to be painted MV red. The guy used a 3,000 quid scanning camera on the MV tank, bluetoothed it in to his computer and it spilled out a Chevrolet colour. Despite not want Chevy colour on my MV (tongue-in-cheek) I had the job done and it came out perfect!! Back on topic though, for dessp2, I think you would have to actually know someone in a panel shop for them to just give you a code and let you walk over to Halfords to buy the touch up. I should hope you'd do better than 'book price' for a perfect thousand miler. I have seen some very average 2012 -14s in dealers for high 7s to low 8s. Aside from the whizzo electronics, I wonder if the standard 2018 would even come close to yours?
Nigel, I have shot myself in the foot far too many times part ex’ing perfect bikes. My bikes are always in ‘stand alone’ condition. I tell you one thing, I am the Man that I would love to buy a bike off. I am just going to do what you do now mate, just keep hold of it and If I want a new one do as I did years ago-get saving.
All credit to you - I love that type of man (speaking figuratively, of course). I don't set out to boast about my small collection, but there are a few like us who are prepared to pay the bit extra for a well-preserved bike. For me, part of the joy of ownership is knowing that I have a pristine bike. Sure, I ride them, but equally, just knowing that I have a good representation of a particular model is amply rewarding. Perhaps also, there is a lot of self-satisfaction in seeing others admire 'OCD clean'. My VF drew a massive crowd at my local dealer on Saturday. Its previous owner was pedantic like ourselves - and @hitch. Whilst it's not in the ilk of RC 45s and 30s, I simply adore this piece of Honda History.
I’m hoping the bloke I bought my bike off gets another as when I went up there to look at mine it was 3 years old with 300 miles on it. Very rare.
I'm liking that helmet too, tuktuk. What year? For me today, I had to pull off seat and rear cowl unit on the VF to get to battery. Screwed on an Optimiser plug attachment, put it back together - with no left-over screws, and then had to do the right thing and test ride it - just in case the 20 gram lead affected the cornering balance.
The year of the helmet? I pre ordered so will be whenever they first came out. Prices have gone up since I bought mine! The borders are unreal Raphael. Im Newcastle based so I spend most of my time on the bike heading up that way. Can go further and visit St Marys Loch and along to Moffat too.
