Hi Guys .i posted up a thread a few weeks ago regarding the note in the Honda manual stating that a change of tyre could affect the wheel speed sensor on the ABS I would like a 55 section rear but not sure of the outcome Any one does this with ABS ?
Yep, I've gone for a 55 profile rear (highly recommend it too) and have an ABS 2012 blade. I too was concerned about this, but having spoken with the technician at my Honda dealership and the tyre centre I went for it having been told it'll have no I'll effects on the ABS function. All good I can confirm - no warning lights etc and the ABS functions perfectly. I've had a 55 profile since changing the first rear at 2500miles. Now at 9200miles to tried, tested and approved Hope that helps Sam
I'd be interested to know too...I guess I should do a brief review. I have Sportsmarts fitted to my bike currently and love them! Superb grip in the dry and confidence-inspiring in the wet. Warm-up times are short and the mileage... Well, consider this: I went through two sets of S20s, also decent, within around 5,000miles of having my bike, until i replaced them with Sportsmarts. 4,500miles later I'm still on the SAME set and I'd estimate they're around half worn! That's after 1300 miles across the continent,a trip to Wales for 3 days, plenty of progressive runs through the twisties and minimal commuting. Almost no squaring off noticeable on the rear tyre and wear seems even across the front. Looks like I'll be changing as a pair but not for a while yet. Worth the small additional costs over other well-rated brands?? Absolutely! Sam
As a little aside to this thread topic, whats the benefit of going from a 50 to 55 profile rear tire?
I didn't notice a huge difference going from 50 to 55 profile to be honest but I do notice it's harder to get right to the edge of the tyre on a 55, i.e. you can lean over further and still have grip. Effectively the taller profile gives a larger contact patch when leant over and it's supposed to make it easier to turn into corners. My personal opinion is the bike turned in perfectly well on the standard 50 profile anyway but I'm sticking to 55s from now on
To my mind it made a huge difference going from the 50 to the 55. It made the bike feel plenty more nimble and very willing to tip into corners. I felt that the amount of countersteering force required to lay the bike over dropped significantly. Almost fingertippy with the 55 tyre installed. Also I got the feeling that I was still a long way from the edge of the tyre even when leaning well over. Which inspired confidence.
I agree it's definitely easier to tip into corners and lean further over confidently with the 55, but I wouldn't say there's a 'night and day' difference, but it's better for sure. As I say I will be staying with 55s from now. This was how confidence-inspiring the 55 profile S20 was on an early summer morning at a nearby roundabout!
Perhaps it's also down to which brand of tyre you're using as my guess is that different tyres have different shapes. I'm on Pilot Power 2CT.
Can't believe no1 has mentioned the Bridgetone R10's. Unreal tyre and voted by Fastbikes and some other magazines (can't remember which) as the top tyre the last 2 years running One of our racing series in Ireland had a Bridgetone R10 control tyre and you could see it was a good tyre cause many of the riders after they moved to different classes still stuck with that tyre cause they were so impressed with it.
I think i used to run the S20s at 34f and 36r. Seemed to work the best for me after experimenting with different pressures. The Sportsmarts I have run as low as 32f and 32r but I've upped it to 34/36 now for better wear
[/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG] Well i managed to get into SMD tyres in Leigh and purchase these suckers and just look at them !They have more shine than a porn stars chuff! Not done much else as adjusting the chain seemed to take hours Race tech K3 front and rear i though about a K1 on the front but the tyre dude said a 3 is nmore than enough for road use .I give them a wash in fairy liquid and warm water and that may take a bit of the shite off them .Sunday i am going to tyre paint in the logos and maybe the oil change but if its dry i might be out and about .
Awesome dude! proud of you mate, you really won't be disappointed. 55's I hope. What price did he charge you on loose wheels?
Yup 190/55 and about 240 crisp ones went his way ..Great little place and no doubt you have been there .I mentioned that CBR1 had been recently and the dude charged me another tenner for the insult lol.
