So they are amazing in the wet? not what I have been told my many more experienced TD'ers and racer I know. I only ask as my first TD was wet till lunch time. The Sportsmarts where excellent. Ok not up there with the 2 u post about and I have a scrub set of the supercorsas in the garage. AS I said they are great tyres but really are they that impressive it the wet? If they are no then they are not everyone choice unless you have them at wets, which most new to TD's won't want straight away
So post a Poll. that would be what I did and everyone can post a poll. post your thread and click post a poll at the bottom. after you have clicked to post your thread add the poll with the question and which choice people can post. So make sure you haev say the top 10 tyres you want to have in the poll and put them up Mike If your unsure then PM me the tyres you want to get some feedback on and I can do it for you the heading I would use would be "fast road /Odd track day Tyres" Or 90% Road/10% track day recommended tyres.
I used the interacts at Cadwell in the wet and was very impressed with them, its hard with tyres everyone is different, i have tried out a few and I have confidence in the interacts and thats 90% of the battle I think
Have to agree, but the 'BSB' road tyres annoy me, nothing more than a marketing gimmick as they have nothing at all apart from tread pattern in common with the proper supercorsas.
Matt, I did a sodden day, and I mean biblically sodden, at mallory a couple of years back, a sloppy track in the dry, horrendous in the wet, and I was battling with shadow on his wet shod hire bike all day, we were doing between 1.05 and 1.10 all day on unfamiliar bikes in the wet!! each to their own on opinions but I've never heard anyone who has actually tried a set in the wet complain, yes ok compared to full wets they are lacking but in their own right they handle the wet fine. I lose count the amount of wet days I've done at cadwell on them.
Good reading gents and think I may have narrowed down my tyre choice for this years antics Basically I know there's the group buy on but I'm just a little concerned I'm buying for buyings sake with the sportsmart as really I don't ever intend to ride in the rain or when it's that cold, my plans this years are below and need a mixture that suits. Focused events season pass - 8 track days (can be spread over time so not got to be all 8 this year although possible) , run at the pointy end of inters or mid pack fast group on a good day....pointy end of inters is actually harder work than mid pack fast.....more loons in inters I suspect April 26th head to Nurburgring again for 4 days - yes it's a lot of road but when you get there it is 'fast road riding' and then there's the ring which let's be honest, you don't bimble round you gun it Then road riding throughout summer, dry days, warm days, ok can get caught out but I don't head out if it looks like rain and although I'll hit a town every now and then it's mainly fast back road riding. finally another eurotrip later in the year (sept) this is actually more of a tour cos the lads who are going aren't particulary fast, they vary in speed so it kinda just ends up being catch up touring with a few of us waiting for the back markers every so often So, quite a mix but a fair few track days or fast road planned, my top two now look to be edging towards: Dunlop gp racer 211 ntec - soft front & endurance rear (it's what I've read somewhere as best combi but can't find where) Or Racetec K1 front and k3 rear - well craigs said this combi in a few posts above so kinda guess it mimics the Dunlop combo What do you reckon, sound about right?
With the amount of miles you've got planned this year on road, and the amount of track days also, I'd say you'd be needing to get yourself a set for the road, maybe ones that'll last better, and then a nice set if sticky icky tyres for the track mate. Last thing you'd want is half nackered tyres on track if your running aswell as you do.
Oh yeh I know, but it's a trade off really, £500-600 for a set of rims or just buy more tyres ? I don't expect them to last the duration but it'd be nice if whatever I buy can handle the lot and then I'll just buy another lot. I do get my hands on loads of bsb racetecs when the season starts up but then each time I head to the track I've gotta change out the Tyres which is ok sometimes but others a pain in the arse and at £20 ish each time it adds more money. Ideally I'd have racetecs k1 front K2 rears sat on a spare set of wheels but that in itself is expensive although worth considering if anybody knows where some cheap rims are What I need is something that'll last 'ok' on the road but be equally happy under tyre warmers at trackdays, the ntec technology sounds great, never used Dunlops so proofs in the pudding or so to speak Life was easier when I had a road bike and a track bike, now I've got two roads bikes and one of which I prefer using on track (blade) and as I've never done the ring on the blade wanted to take that this year Edit. In fact I've just looked on flea bay and there are two sets of rims, £700+ for either set Then add £80-£90 for the racetecs, £20 fitting and my first outing of the year will be nearly a grand for a track day, plus the other set of road biased rubber......£1200 It's just silly money, i could buy 5-6 sets of 'not as high mileage' rubber for that, say 3 track days depending on circuit aggression and save the sets with better centres for the end of year tour. Reckon I'd get the ring trip and at least a couple of track days out of a set of gp racers surely?
Youd get those miles out of racetec k1 & k3 easily. maybe a fresh set for the ring. A K3 Rear, even being much harder than a k1 rear, will still provide more grip than anything else on the market. you dont need spare rims, your getting into trackday mentalism territory there, 1 brand new set of racetecs for the ring trip and get the rest part worn, job done.
Glad you said that I take it there's only one version of a K3? Only ask as I know k1&k2 compounds are always track orientated really and the K3's I've seen are usually paired up for 'fast road/track' So I'd want K1 front as per usual (what I buy part worn matched up with k2 rear) and then the more road biased K3 for the rear? Wonder how those deals will pan out, hope they don't try and sting me for two individual tyres
BMW supply k1 front k3 rear as An option on the s1000rr so I'm sure it's available. Pretty much the best prices For racetecs & supercorsas around is Competition Logistics, also known as complog, they are the official Supplier for British superbikes and therefore do cracking deals in aforementioned tyres.
OK quicky on here FWR LTD Britain's Cheapest Tyres!. under Pirelli they have Diable Supercorsa SP - now only 239.00 a pair. (Except 190/55-17 or 200/55-17 sections, £249) and Diablo Supercorsa - £319.00 a pair I thought it was Supercorsa Sp expensive and BSB cheaper? Also why is this? is the Sp or supercorsea a better tyre then the BSB?
Thats a very good price on Supercorsa SP. The SP is the basis compound of the Supercorsa SC (race tyre). It's a tad harder compound but still very good and with lots of the grip. The 'BSB' tyre is no longer part of the Pirelli range for 2012. It was largely a marketing gimmick, in that the tyre was quite similar to the SP. This was a branding exercise and not to be confused with the same tyre the guys race on in BSB. The Supercorsa at £319 is the proper all singing all dancing race tyre as the guys use in BSB / WSB etc. It's a proper super sticky tyre available in two front compounds and 3 rear compounds.
The SP only comes in one compound fella. It's the Supercorsa (SC) that comes with compound choices, at that for road use, I'd be SC2 front and rear. (medium) if it was road use. But the SP would be a more suited tyre to that application.
ahh so there was the BSS, but now just the Sp and SC. the latter being the racers choice ? So lots to learn So the SC tyres I gather would cost even more?
I had Pirelli Supercorsa BSB 's fitted on Thursday. Just finished scrubbing them in today and had about 15 miles where I could give them a little push. I had to be careful though as there was quite a lot of mud and some damp patches on the roads and it was a bit cool. So far I am extremely impressed by them. Love the 55 profile on the rear which really has sped up turning in, havent used much of the sides yet but they seem super grippy and very very stable. I have used Pirellis on other bikes and have always been pleased with them, these seem to be the best ones I have used, although it's early days, they are very confidence inspiring . Tomorrow they will get some more 'testing'.
Please update after lift off Sunday looking for some tyres soon and it seems a close call on what to get.
