Oh and 3k - bang on! 2200 on milestone so will be 3k plus by the time we've added the scenic factor. ; )
What all the members should do is let everybody know when there coming up to Scotland and maybe try to meet up
I'd love to come in may, have four days free... But not sure I fancy the ride up and down in such a short space of time...
I would be there if my wife and I wern't expecting in May! Also missing out on the Moto GP trip the rest of the lads are off on Sounds awesome though and I'll be there with a few more if you guys do it next year!?
Route Napoleons is without doubt one of my favourite biking roads, period, every biker should do it. Roll on June and I'll be there again. Great trip you've got planned there mate. JD
Word of caution - according to this calendar it looks like the 'Ring is only open between 5-7pm on the Saturday: Opening times Nordschleife | Nürburgring but it is open 2pm-7.30pm on the Friday. Even then, it's prone to the weather and accidents closing it. When I was there it was closed for a few hours after a multi-car pile-up required some people being airlifted to hospital, and then when it re-opened everyone piled on and it was more like the Wacky Races than a civilised trackday! Then it started to rain and there were several more accidents. If you're desperate to go on the 'Ring then you may have to be a bit more flexible and build the rest of the trip around being there a few days. Personally I would only get really excited about going round once I'm there and have put my ticket in the entrance barrier! Good choices of routes for the rest of your trip though. Not sure if you've done those roads before, but if not here's a coupla tips: I'd recommend lunch in Beaune on the Nancy-Grenoble leg, as it's a beautiful little town right in the heart of Burgundy. Stayed there a few times and worth rolling up in the middle of the town for a spot of lunch. If you get time on the Grenoble-Nice leg then worth taking a detour off the RN at Castellane for a loop round the Gorges du Verdon (~1 hour or so, with a stop). The Autostradas from the French border to Genoa are pretty fun - more like an arcade game particularly with all the tunnels, tightish corners (for a motorway) and tailgating Italian drivers in the mix! Not sure if you've got a definte route for Genoa-Bologna but the A12-Viareggio/A11-Lucca/A1-up to Bologna is a fun route, particularly the last bit on the A1 as it climbs through the hills, tunnels and viaducts. The A1 from Milan-Bologna is dull-as-ditchwater, imo.
cheers mate – hadn’t even checked the diary, to be fair, we done the ring last year so know the implications of going on a weekend. its more of a handy milestone spot with good roads why we choose it, and if we got a couple laps in then great. to be fair, might be good to go last thing on fri though so will have to wait and see. done the Calais to Nice, and Germany routes before, the Italy and Austria section is new, but really appreciate your tips mate, will bare them in mind.
I'm off to Norway around July time. Mate of mine lives near Stavanger. 4 or 5 days spent in the river and in lakes up on the mountains in waders fishing for trout. My mate and I are trying to decide whether to fly or ride it since they no longer have a ferry from Newcastle to Norway. It'd involve riding all the way down south and then getting the ferry to Esbjerg and then up into Norway
I am under poressure to do something different next year, this will be the third year in succesion we have done the same place, i am in danger of breaking my own rules about "There are so many places to go, why keep doing the same thing every year?". We will be doing something, i fancy a spot of posh camping or setting up in a chalet and playing round the old Clermont Ferrand road racing circuit which is a peice of tarmac draped around an extinct volcano, the F1 drivers used to get car sickness going round there, it is supposed to be great, then you have all the other roads in and around the area. Or we may just buy £700 shitters and ride to Odessa. Or we may buy cheap enduros and do a lap of Corsica using beaches and sheep trails. The world (well, Europe) is the mollusc of our choice really.
Hi mate have you got a route planned out , me and a few mates fancy doing same sort of tour , may be going las tweek in July though , have you pre booked any hotel accomodation?
Isle of Man for the TT from 26th May to 11th June and MotoGP at Silverstone, that's if I have a bike !
Hi Bobmg Rotterdam, motorway as quick as poss via Dusseldorf / Mannheim, drop stuff at hotel and explore - days out are deciuded over breakfast, stuffed in the satnav and off Stayed at the Blau Ecke hotel in Adenau last 2 years, very good, only 15 minutes from the Ring entrance (oo.....er). Stopping at etol in Baden Baden centre this year, looks OK on web, they have reserved parking for the bikes, reasonable, right on the B500.........
One guy backed out, but his place was quickly filled, a 2010 Blade and a 650 Drag Star makes 9 of us in total.
Pension Williams is just off the B500 about halfway up the B500, lots of bikers stay there and nice people. Really lovely sceanary too.
Stayed there also, great location but a litle quiet. The fella that runs it is a character but a really nice bloke, I'd go back no probs
My wife & I are heading up to Glencoe for a couple of days in early May. Its her first trip out so we are keeping it short. Will be away with the lads for a week or so later in the year.
